3 years post RNY and Dealing with Surgery Complications
Apr 29, 2011
Greetings,Weight is at 190; below my goal of 200lbs. The last time I posted I was almost 6 months out from RNY and weighed about 205. From that point, Dec 2008 to June 2010 (1 and 1/2 years, my weight was pretty stable at about 220, which was just about where the bariatric surgeon predicted. I was healthy and happy. Then in June 2010 I began having neck and shoulder pain, my PCP couldn't figure out what it was.
Long story short is I have been suffering arthritic pain in my hands, shoulders and feet for 7 months. My PCP, Rheumotologist, and Bariatric surgeon are treating me for an overgrowth of bacteria due to the RNY and are calling it Blind Loop Syndrome, although we don't have a true blind loop after RNY; it's just that my symptoms most resemble this medical condition. I have been on anti-biotics and I am not getting any better, so the next step would be reversal of the RNY. I will post again after I attend my consult to get a second opinion. It has been 8 months of a big loss of quality of life. My case is rare and had I been able to foresee the future prior to my RNY I don't think I would have changed my mind.
