Catching Up & NW Weight Loss Conference

Catching Up

I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I’ve posted anything. The last five weeks have been a bit of a blur because our grandson decided to share a virus with my husband and me. One night with him and five weeks of illness for us and we still have lingering symptoms. It’s been five weeks of being home ill, trying to catch up at work, playing catch up at home with fall/winter chores, getting ready for surgery and getting ready for Christmas as I don’t want to have to deal with that holiday when I’m recovering from my 11/29 surgery. There have been some major events associated with WLS during the last 5-6 weeks of upper respiratory fog.

NW Weight Loss Conference

My sister-in-law who is also interested in WLS happened across an advertisement for the first ever NW Weight Loss Conference scheduled in our area. She told me about it in case I wanted to go and she would go as well to learn how she can be supportive. However, it turned out to be very informative for her. This was a week or two (can’t remember) into my upper respiratory infection so I am eternally grateful for her willingness to expose herself to me for an entire weekend. Fortunately, she stayed healthy.

The conference started Friday afternoon and went through Sunday. We went from the beginning through Saturday night. The speakers were fabulous and included big names like Katie Jay, Dr. Garth Davis, Mary Jo Rapini, Coach Roz, Chef Dave Fouts and a number of others. There were the main presentations plus break-out sessions for those interested in particular topics. It was primarily geared to individuals who had already had surgery, but it was very helpful for those considering it. We provided that feedback to the organizers. Some of the many topics included the emotions surrounding WLS, strategies for avoiding regain, body image and sexual health, plastic surgery after WLS, transfer addiction and losing weight without surgery. There were also some vendors and it was really well done for the first conference. We’re looking forward to it again next year. We both learned a great deal. I feel more prepared for the issues that might come up regarding body image, emotions, relationships and excess skin. Errrr!
