Surgery Home Preparations
Nov 18, 2010
I already posted a brief update about that day with the surgeon and getting such a quick surgery date. That was exciting and probably part of the reason I’ve been scrambling to get so much done beforehand.I have a 3-day pre-op diet to do. With my surgery being 11/29, the first day of the pre-op diet conveniently falls the day after Thanksgiving. However, the best thing about Thanksgiving is leftovers! So, we are having an early Thanksgiving this Sunday and we’re keeping it low key. It’s also Murphy’s law that before I decided to proceed with surgery, I had reserved a humanely-raised, free-range, organic, heirloom Tom turkey direct from the farm. Turns out that our boy is really, really huge and almost takes up the entire bottom shelf of the fridge. We don’t think we have a pan large enough to brine it in so we will probably use a cooler. I’m still not telling most of our family members about the surgery so it’s been interesting to try to explain the early and low-key Thanksgiving. Fortunately, most of other plans this year. My husband’s Dad inquired and my quick-thinking Jack told him I was having “female” surgery. Nothing shuts an old man up quicker than “female” stuff.
Christmas shopping is 97% done. Christmas cards are made, compiled and ready to mail. I’m working on wrapping right now and preparing some for mailing. I won’t be able to lift more than 15 lbs post-op so I’m getting us stocked up on things I frequently go get myself that are heavy – dog & cat food, chicken feed, Costco stuff, etc. I’m going to clean the house next weekend so it’s good for awhile and also to keep me busy while on liquid diet. I don’t think it should be too bad, but I’ll post a whine or two if it is.
