Surgeon Testimonial

James Davidson, M.D.
I first met Dr D when I had my group presentation by Nova Body Solutions. They explained all risks, procedures offered, etc... Then Dr D came in at the end of the presentation to talk with us. My first impression of Dr D was that he was all business. I do like that as it means he is serious about what he does. He is one of the top bariatric doctors in the DFW area so I feel confident that I'm in good hands. He has also been doing this for many years and hasn't lost a patient.
Well, he got me thru the surgery and his outside handi-work looks fine. I had no leaks after having my upper GI. He likes to ask you numerous times why should we not have real food for the 1st two weeks. Just tell him we don't want to bust out our pouch-he's satisfied.

Hi there - I'm vicki and have been looking into WLS for many years. I've been heavy since I was about 10yrs old. About 2 years ago I was on the South Beach diet & lost about 70 lbs. Then I met my future husband, and started eating like him even though I knew I would gain the weight back (like every time before). So I decided when I got up to 227, had high blood pressure, serious GERD, joint pain, that I would see a dr about WLS. I then found out that my insurance would not cover it due to my employer putting a rider on the insurance. UGH! My sweetie & I were already getting married, and his insurance would definitely cover WLS. We got married on 6/12/07, and I went back to my dr on 8/06 to start all over again (same co-morbidities, but weighed 251 now). I had my surgery on 10/8! Yeah!

4 months out

wow-i haven't updated in quite a while. well, since mid-august, i'm down 65lbs. i'm currently wearing sz 12 jeans & XL shirts, sz 7 panties, 40DDD bras. The bust was quite a surprise. I had a bra-fitting done as I just couldn't find any size to fit. So cup size went up, band went down.
My weight loss feels slow, even though it really isn't. I just see others on the boards that have lost so much more weight at this point. I just try to remember that everyone is different. I just want it gone yesterday!

8 weeks out
on December 4, 2007 8:00 am
Haven't updated in a while so here i am. Today I am wearing size 14 jeans & XL tops. I think that's pretty good considering I started in size 18-20 jeans/pants & size 2X tops. I am still wearing some 1XL tops as my chest hasn't really gone down too much. I also found a great slimmer for my tummy roll. I got it on ebay for $10 total, and I believe it is called shape n slim. It is like a tank with no bra (only comes up to under bra line) so it will not go moving around my body, & I can wear my own bra. If you are top heavy, I would definitely suggested looking for a slimmer like this.
I think my cup size is finally coming down a notch. Some bras I can still wear a DDD but others are too big. I am looking forward to this coming down. I'm sure when I get closer to my goal weight, I will need to have some plastics, including a breast lift & reduction. A nice C would be wonderful (at least to me).
Someone finally noticed today that I have lost weight, or at least asked me if I was losing weight. It only took 45 lbs to disappear.
Hoping to be in One-derland by Christmas. According to my scale, I only have about 5-7 lbs to go (depending on the day). Hopefully I will get to update my pics soon as I'm tired of looking at that sad belly over there.
I also wanted to mention that I have been able to tolerate anything I have put in my mouth. I've heard a lot of people say that they can't do pork. I've had canadian bacon, bacon bits & pork tenderloin--all just fine. Chicken-no problem, turkey was fine (I did use some gravy just to be sure though), ground beef (lean, not so lean) & buffalo went down just fine too. Tried scallops, tuna fish & canned salmon-also good. One meat that was a little harder for me was deli meat. This may be due to my eating too fast. It just seemed to sit like a lump in my chest for a while.

6 weeks out
on November 20, 2007 2:12 pm
so yesterday marked my 6 wks out date. went to the dr for weigh-in (lost about 11 lbs so that makes about 38 since August) & nutrition class. the nutrition class is really a laugh. if i hadn't already paid the money (the classes are required), i would probably skip them. i've learned so much more from my OH friends than that silly class.
so i'm hoping to lose 14 lbs by Christmas as that will put me under 200 lbs, but i haven't hit a stall yet & many people seem to get them right around this time post-op. we'll see.
i had my 1st bout of the foamies friday night. now that was fun. my hubby & i went out to eat at cheddar's since we were actually alone (no kids). i got a small chicken quesadilla thinking i could pick out the chicken & maybe have a very small part of the tortilla. i had about 3 bites of chicken & a small bite of tortilla. that was it. couldn't eat anymore. i sat there while hubby ate his large salad feeling sick the whole time. i finally decided i needed to go to the restroom. i spit up foamy spit (looked like egg white). i did it again in the parking lot. i did it again at wal-mart (luckily i made it to the restroom, barely). i did it again in the hallmark store (almost didn't make it there-was running for the front door as they have no public restroom). finally i was done. apparently something got stuck in my stoma-that caused all the excess saliva as it was to help digest the material. i didn't have my papaya enzyme with me-that's supposed to help. i have also placed a small plastic bag in my purse in case this sort of thing happens in the future.

4 weeks out!
on November 5, 2007 9:11 am
so here i am--4 weeks ago today at this time i was in recovery, ready for my new life to begin. seems like surgery was forever ago & that i will never get to the "months out stage."

what i have learned so far.

i'm not superwoman. i've never been the type of person to ask for help. i needed help in the hospital when i just couldn't sleep & had to beg for some pain meds. i needed help getting out of bed in the mornings because it hurt too much to bend out of bed.

coughing after surgery is a horrible & necessary thing. i think that's where the majority of my pain came from!

protein bars are not meant for people that should be on a pureed diet--no matter how much you chew.

eating too fast hurts bad! (and this is very easy to do if you are not thinking about your food)

everybody loses at different rates. generally someone who is quite large at time of surgery will lose faster than those that are a light weight (me). don't concern yourself with what other people are losing--concern yourself with your well being.

people don't know that loose & lose are 2 different words (loose: my jeans are loose today; lose: i hope to lose 100 lbs--see, 2 different words)

I checked my weight at home-shows I'm down to about 217-that means I've lost 34 lbs since 8/6/07! Yeah!

boiled egg
on November 1, 2007 3:21 pm
came home today & decided to get some protein in and just have dinner in a few hours. so i ate a hard boiled egg. i've had this in my tuna this week so i knew i could tolerate the egg. BUT i apparently ate it too fast & probably didn't chew well enough. it was stuck--thought i was going to have to throw it up (haven't thrown up since before surgery), but it finally started working it's way down. Thank Goodness! just beware--chew that egg & treat it like it's a meal-eat it slowly.
