New jeans make me happy!
Aug 23, 2010
Well, I never thought that I would be happy to buy a new pair of jeans.I always hated shopping before. I loathed the thought of trying pants on. I always dressed well, but the time it took to find things to minimize lumps and bumps was exhausting and the effort always left me with a renewed negative body image.
The other day, I shopped out of necessity. Nothing fits. All of my pants are too big. Belts can't help the "orphan look" I am now sporting. I decided to buy one new pair of jeans. I went to Walmart to see if I could find something not too terribly expensive. Here is what went down:
I knew that my size 16 and most of my 14 jeans were too big. Just typing that sentence makes no sense to me, as I was wearing a 24W prior to surgery. I can't wrap my head around the fact that I am so much smaller. I knew that the 16's were big...really big. So, I went to the rack and pulled off a 12. No W after it, no Old Navy crazy "size-10-that-is-really-a-14", no alternate universe sizing. The jeans do have a little stretch in them, but most do these days.
Fitting room- tried on jeans- 12's fit!!! I will try to get a picture of them on here soon.)
Not fit so snugly that I thought I was being cut in half, but fit so that I could still hook both thumbs in the waistband and feel comfortable. I considered trying on a real 10- but knew that I wanted the $5 clearance jeans that I could wear without a "sucker-in-er."
Did I ever think that something that used to cause so much frustration and disappointment (jeans shopping) would make me squeal with delight? No. But I like it!!
Love to you all,
Rebeca
