Had to take drastic measures on June 5, 2012 9:31 am
As you've seen in my last blog the weight was just not coming off. I took drastic measures (as if the surgery wasn't enough) and started the HCG protocol. I LOVE IT!!! I am 6 days in and 10 lbs lighter!!! I think the RNY is actually benefiting me on this plan since I have my pouch and hopefully the malabsorbtion is still taking effect. I figure that after surgery I wasn't eating but 500 calories a day so how is this any different? I eat protein, fruits and veggies and still take all my vitamin supplements. I do feel hungry between meals but hopefully that subsides in a couple days. I only did 1 loading day so I've been told I will feel this way. It's so exciting to see the scale move finally after 5 months! I can already see a difference in my shape and usually that takes a good 20 lbs to be noticeable.
If you have a stubborn 25-40 lbs that you just can't lose, I have your answer and the magic bullet.
Good luck!!

Why Not Me RNY...WHY??? on March 22, 2012 1:58 pm
I feel that I can officially say the RNY did not work for me. How often does this happen? How can it NOT work? Surgery was 7/7/11 and since then I have lost 41 lbs which is only 40% of excess weight that I've lost. I follow all the rules, water, protein, vitamins, and exercise. I've tried upping calories, lowering calories, not counting carbs, lowering carbs, adding more exercise, weights and nothing is working. I've weighed between 194-197 since November 26. This isn't a stall...this is maintenance. I've read post after post of people that were at my height/start weight or not and they were all down at least 80 lbs by now so nobody can say everybody is different. I look at profiles of anyone similar to me to see what they are doing but nobody reallys says anything but how much weight they've lost and how this wonderful journey has changed their life. I don't feel that way. My favorite part is when people admit to not eating right, not getting all the protein in, not exercising enough or at all and they are losing weight. Maybe I am doing something wrong...I did see that some people out 6 months were still eating 800-900 calories but I've been at 1200 since November but 500 of those are from protein supplements.
I really don't regret getting the surgery because it does help with eating less and I'm eating a healthier diet. At least I have to answer to something. But why me??? Why isn't is working for me?? What do I do next? I thought I'd be close to my goal weight by now! I just had higher expectations and I've been let down.

Week 9 Post Op on September 12, 2011 2:07 pm
I'm in week 9 now and doing rather well, no problems to date BUT the scale isn't moving much. I'm only down 27 lbs since surgery. Seems rather slow going for me. I am losing inches but I'm not sure why that's supposed to be better than losing weight. In order to get this surgery they used my BMI, not my measurements. I stepped up my exercise in the last couple of weeks and get all my protein in everyday. My water is pretty good, at least 6-8 glasses a day. I could up that a little I guess. I created a weight loss chart to try to bring it into perspective. Here's what I have:

Week 5 Post Op & weigh less than what my drivers... on August 16, 2011 1:16 pm
I haven't complained in awhile because I have no reason to!! I'm 5 weeks out and down 17.5 lbs since surgery and 55.5 lbs total!! I'm no longer in race mode but nice and easy marathon mode. I don't weigh myself everyday, maybe every other or so. I feel great and I'm down from a tight 22 to an 18. That feels good. I feel "normal" right now because most of my adult life I've weighed around 220. When I get below 200 lbs, that will be my WOW moment. I haven't weighed under 200 since high school.

Day 25 Post Op on August 1, 2011 7:17 pm
Here I am again 25 days post op and I'm not losing any weight. I've been bouncing between 226 and 228 for more than a week now. I've been working on my house all week painting and complete exhausti on has set in. I took today off! The bottoms of my feet hurt so bad! So I continue to be frustrated. when is this "new life" going to begin. I go see my surgeon on 8/10 and I go back to work this Thurs. Just seems weird that I'm only down 7 lbs since surgery. That's my average when I lost weight before surgery so I'm not excited about it. I've meausured too and I've lost an inch around my belly. Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong. I'm on pureed foods and eating 3 times a day plus my protein shakes, popcicles and water. I eat things like instant mashed potatoes (which I just had) pureed vegetable soup, creamy soups, pureed chili, pureed refried black beans with cheese and plain greek yogurt oh and my favorite breakfast is grits with an egg, cheese and bacon bits. Yummy!!! There's my story and I'm sticking to it. Until next time!

My Story Let's see...as far as I can remember, going back to elementary school, I've always been chubby. The only person that really said anything about my weight was my grandpa. My grandma and my mom would always say, "that's just baby fat, she'll grow out of it". I had baby fat for a long time! I remember in jr. high I wore size 14 pants even if they were too tight because Mervyns didn't carry anything larger and the only fat person store I knew about was for grandma's.
In high school I -never- wore jeans...in fact I don't think I wore jeans again until my mid to late 20s when Avenue and Lane Bryant became my stores of choice. Always stretch pants, sweats and the like. I weighed 175 my senior year then after slowly started gaining and stayed at about 215 until after I had my first daughter at age 20. I had tried the B12 injection diet, phen fen and nutrisystem but only lost about 15 lbs with each of them, meaning, I'd do one diet, lose weight then gain it back and try another one. In May '94 I was in a car accident with a broken pelvic bone which put me on my back for about 12 wks so once I was up and around again and muscle was coming back, I came in at a svelt 242, my highest weight at that time. That November I married my baby daddy. Probably about In '97 I lost 42 lbs by walking everyday at lunch and maintained for about a year then gained back 30 after I had my second daughter n 2000, lost that 30 lbs just in time for my 10 yr high school reunion. I did Weight Watchers with both those losses and maintained for almost 2 yrs then I got a new job. This is where it went really bad. We all ate together, everyday and fast food mostly and slowly reached 249. My mom had her RNY and was pushing me to do it so finally in 2005 I tried attempt #1 for WLS and really just didn't follow through and let it go by the wayside. I think I knew in my heart that my husband would really be affected by this because he was a very jealous type person and well, he is a chubby chaser. After 10 yrs of marriage I got divorced (best decision ever) but fell into a heavy depression, not because of the divorce because I chose to leave him. It was more because of getting out of a terrible marriage that was full of mental abuse and his bad temper plus he was extremely negative and having to live on my own for the first time in my life at 33 years old. I loved it though. I always craved being on my own but it's not easy at first. Probably about a year later I started on Jenny Craig. I lost about 30 lbs and I was working out and saw really good changes in my body from lifting weights. I went through attempt #2 for WLS but at that time my BMI was too low and I had no medical problems so they denied me and JC got too expensive so I quit...and gained....more. I thought I had a good grasp on my depression with medication and therapy but then I lost my job on St. Patrick's Day in 2008 and again, depression set in. I slowly gained weight. I didn't work for about 7 months and during this time I met my honey Josh. I started working at a temp job and about 8 months later I weened myself off the medication but that was not a good idea. That went from bad to worstest ever! and I gained even more weight. It was very stressful for me because the temp job ended and I had to move in with my honey. I wasn't really ready for this but I really didn't have a choice because I couldn't support myself and my daughters. When I moved in with him, my daughters lived with their dad because I didn't want to transfer them to new schools with my unstable situation. That was SO hard for me to be without my girls. In the next year I gained weight...Now I'm up to 275ish but I got a new job! I went to my Dr to see about starting attempt #3 for WLS which brings me here and up to date. Although now I'm actually on 2 antidepressants and doing awesome!!! It really gave me the focus and motivation I needed to go all the way this time and really make it happen.
I'm going through pretty much everything a lot of you have or is going through to get this surgery done. The only thing that I'm having an issue with is the stupid therapist i saw in result of my evaluation but you'll read that blog.
My honey is really supportive of my decision but I have people that don't want me to have it and I don't talk about the subject to them but I have my family who do support me, especially because my mom and brother both had RNY. I'm actually using the same surgeon as my bro. I'm excited to be on OH and meet a bunch of you that -really- understand me and to get and give that extra support we all need. I'm looking forward to the journey!
