More Surgery Needed

Dec 15, 2009

I went back to Dr. Miles last week for my first fill.  It went well.  No problems, and I can tell a difference when eating.  I have between 2.5 and 3ccs in my 10cc band.  I certainly need to take small bites, and some things are harder to eat -- mostly the stuff I shouldn't be eating anyway!   I had lost 24 lbs according to his scales in the afternoon of last Tuesday.  As of this morning on my scale, I've lost 31.5.  The liquid days helped jump start me back into strict adherence to "the rules."   When I add the 12 lbs I lost pre op, that's 43lbs.

Anyway, the big news was that I'm going to need some more surgery.  Immediately after surgery, I felt a bump just below my bra line.  It was not where I thought the port should be, and I didn't think I should be feeling the port yet.  But others thought it could be the port, and in my 1 week post op appt., the nurse thought it was the port.  However, I think I was sitting down when I showed it to her.  You can't feel it as distinctly when I'm sitting, and you can't feel it at all when I am laying down.  This time I made sure I was standing when I had her feel it.  It was unusual enough that she had both Dr. Miles and Lenny, the PA, come in and poke around at it.  Well, it turns out to be the tubing connecting the port to the band.  It is making a loop that is sticking out.  When I lay down (as in surgery), it lies over to the side, so that is why they did not see it.  It needs to be fixed.  They are going to have to make another incision (port size or more, I think), go in and tack it down.  If it will not cooperate, they will have to move the port to stretch out the tubing.  They don't want it to get kinked or anything.  Obviously the tubing needs to work.  I am fine with all of this EXCEPT I do not do well with general anesthesia, and I'm going to have to have that again.  They need me to be asleep enough that they can move the port if necessary.  Dr. Miles is not going to empty my band, and I'm hoping they will be able to control my nausea.  I don't want this to cause another problem.  Dr. Miles has never had this issue before.  I am hoping it is not a big deal because I'm planning to go back to work the Thursday after the surgery on Tuesday.  Hopefully that will not be a problem.

Just wanted to keep this updated.  Other than that, I am in full crazy mode.  Christmas is so fun but chaotic, and I'm finding it hard to get time for exercise.  I'm also not sure I'm getting in all the protein I need.  Focus, focus, focus!  Merry Christmas.
