I'm 28 now, and I've always been obese. It has interrupted every aspect of my life. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic with PCOS at age 22 and it made me so angry. I underwent the process for bariatric surgery in 2004, but my insurance denied it and my doctor wouldn't help me (even though an appeal would have been approved), and have even passed the psych evaluation.

I have a wonderful husband and a fantastic support network. I've done weight watchers and worked out at a gym, taken weight lifting (which I enjoy) and have had every blood panel run that might answer why I am so overweight. I eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water and am as active as possible. Yes, I crave sugar, eat at fast food restaurants and drink energy drinks, but not everyday.

I have prayed that this year will bring the weightloss surgery and allow me to get healthy.

WLS Informational Seminar
on January 4, 2010 9:08 pm

Tonight was the informational seminar.

I'll just get my negativity out of the way:
I was thuroughly unimpressed with the fact that my registration request did not actually get processed (no one who signed up online had their information process through), and I was un-impressed that the gal (Karen) who runs the insurance information and schedules initial appointments was not at the seminar. The gal who gave the testimonial was a little dour, and off-putting.

On the brighter side, Dr. Oh has a wicked sense of humor (perhaps a little on the morbid side...right where I like it), and gave a thurough explaination of each of the procedures and their pros and cons. After all the research I'd done I was opting for the DS surgery, but after the seminar, I think I could totally rock the Lapband.

I cannot believe all the costs involved....I consider it an heavy investment into a longer, much more successful life.

2010
on January 3, 2010 3:01 am

I've been drinking 32 ounces or more of water, every day, for the last week. I've been trying to walk more. I've been parking at the far end of parking lots in an effort to move more. My job ended last week so I'm searching for a new one while monday begins the school year.

Gym time again! I've been gearing up and I'm totally excited about going back to the gym on monday. I also have the information seminar on monday, so I'll remember to write down my questions and ask them here...or at least I'll blog about the event.

I GOT it!

I got it! I got it! My insurance card that promises my coverage as of January 1st. You don't understand...or maybe you do. Not only does this mean that I can get a health check, but this insurance seems to cover WLS!

*dances around* January 4th information seminar, here I come!!
