Update
on June 1, 2008 10:34 pm
Well I had my Lap RNY on May 15 and am doing well.  I have lost  2 pants sizes and 28 pounds so far.  I've had few problems as far as pain.  I'm walking and working out on my Gazelle, can't wait til I can ride my horses again. LOL .  The garden has gotten away from me while I have been recuperating but I knew it would and I'm not really recovered enough yet to work in it for long periods.  One thing I have discovered with the heat is I can't drink enough yet to stay hydrated so being outside has to be in the early mornings or late evenings.  I have been sleeping quite a bit but I think I'm playing catch up on all the sleep I've missed out on the last few years.  The best protein source I have found so far is Slim Fast Lo Carb- 20gm of Protein and 180 calories.  I'm also drinking Special K Protein water which adds 5 grams of protein per mix.  For some reason plain water does not set well with my pouch.
We went to Canton ( A big Tradesday) yesterday and I added 4 turkeys to the farm critters,  I'm working towards sustained farming and raising my own meat and vegetables so I can stay out of the grocery stores as much as possible, I still need to get  a couple of pigs to raise out so I can butcher them this winter.
Farm life, gotta love it LOL.

Almost there
on May 3, 2008 1:37 pm
Well it has taken me almost a year of dealing with insurance companies and Dr's offices but I finally have insurance approval and a surgery date which is May 15, 2008.  Only 12 days away!  I'm getting nervous and jittery LOL and my brain is playing head games with me.  I'm sure this to shall pass.  LOL I'm so excited about my surgery that I forgot my birthday is next week!

My Journey
on July 18, 2007 11:51 am
July 3, 2007- After over 2 months of waiting I finally got to see my surgeon Dr. Hugh Babineau.  I found his seminar informative and though I went in with the Lapband surgery in mind I decided on the RNY.  There are several reasons I chose the RNY over the Lapband.  My sis had the Lapband a year and a half ago and has only lost 55 pounds.  This is really not acceptable to me.  I know she has learned to eat around the band and I probably would also.  I also picked the RNY for the convenience, I don't have to go back for fills and such regularly.  The other reason I won't be tempted to splurge on sweets with the RNY LOL.

July 17,2007-  Went to see my PCP, he had no idea I was considering WLS and was pleasantly surprised.  He was very helpful and supportive.  He told he would have the letter I needed for the insurance company by Monday!
I'm well on my way it seems.  Now I've just got to do the psych eval. YUCK!

My Story

My story is similar to everyone elses.  It seems I was born to be fat.  I have been on every diet known to man and have fought my weight since pre teen years.  The least I  weighed in my adult years was 202 pounds and the most was 365.  I have battled my weight almost constantly since I hit my 30's to keep me below 300 pounds.  Right now I weigh 282.  This weight is after 2 years of diligently watching my carb intake.
I began considering WLS 4 years ago but let my ex husband talk me out of it.  I'm kicking myself for that now.  Unfortunately I can't turn back time so now I'm going forward.  I have never minded being big, really, but over the last couple of years my weight is starting to affect my quality of life.
I am very active, I hunt, fish, ride horses and do all kinds of other outdoors stuff.  I now have trouble getting on a horse and because of arthritis in my feet and ankles can barely walk some days.  I live on a working farm, I raise goats, have a few chickens and there is no telling what I'll drag home next . LOL
I think deciding to have WLS is one of the biggest and smartest decisions of my life.  I truly believe it will improve my quality and length of life.
So my journey begins.....
