Home a couple days and settling into life

Mar 12, 2010

I've been home about 72 hrs now, and have mostly been resting.  I get up to take the brief stroll around the upstairs and to drink my protein drinks and extra water.  I'm really glad I got the Isopure and Cytomax RTD shakes.  40g of protein in 20oz of fluids is really easy to do right now.  It's a little costly, but I figure I'll be down to one per day plus regular food soon enough.

It's weird how they say your tastebuds change.  The Isopure is like diluted gatorade and tastes good, while the cytomax/cytosport whatever it is, is super sugary to me now.  I definitely have to dilute that one and drink it with lots of ice.  But even If I hated them, Jed likes them, so they'll be consumed.

My pain is generally tolerable.  I worry when I pull on the stitches/staples rolling around in bed, but that's the only time they really HURT.  Unfortunately, I'm hoarding the rest of my pain meds since I don't have a refill.  I posted on the main boards about taking regular tylenol cut in half, but I can't get the nurse on the phone and they'll leave for the day soon.  Guess I'll just guage my pain and take it if I need it.

Otherwise, I've just been drinking these drinks and giving myself the Lovenox injections.  No big deal.  To take the darn cap off is a pain though, as is extending the "needle shield" when I'm done.  Too complicated for a basic syringe. :)

I've been doing my deep breathing, and that has generally been cake. Ohhh... cake.... wait, no cake for me.  Odd thing is, I don't really crave anything at the moment.  I'm sure semi solids will sneak into my thoughts soon, since I'm getting somewhat tired of the same fruity drinks everyday.  Maybe I'll mix up some of the powders to try.  I've got a good 20+ flavors of stuff.

Aside from drinking all day, the only other thing that controls my time is running to the bathroom.  It sucks to have diarrhea all the time, but as the doc says, liquids in = liquids out.  Good thing egg day is next Monday.

Anway, according to my scale, I'm down 12 lbs from the start of the preop diet.  I'm a little worried about posting that, because I know some of it is water weight, and I don't want to get fixated that my loss will follow that steep of a curve.  But it is nice to look at for now....

Gonna go grab a nap.  I'm getting tired out very easily.  Hope I feel better next week when school is back in session, otherwise I might miss it.  Guess we'll just see.
