Day 4 on opti, and this happens

So today I had all three of my kids in the car. All of a sudden my 9 year old says "Mommy please tell me, is this surgery that you are going to have? is there a chance you will die??" 

Me, totally caught me off guard, I had no words, there was a long pause! !, and for that moment i had my first doubt of surgery. I know the statistics about the risks, and in my profession I deal with death every day. And I was still at a loss for words.

Following what seemed to be five minutes he said "MOM" did you hear me, I said yes I heard you, sorry no no mommy is not going to die, ( me thinking should I tell the truth to the 9 year old the risks involved) and have that play on his mind or just smile and go with my answer.
