Four days until my surgery
Jul 17, 2010
This is my first blog post. I have been pursuing WLS for 2-3 months and just received the insurance approval and date on Friday. I am scheduled for surgery in four days.I was never really thin, but have really been struggling with morbid obesity for the past 15 years. I don't think skinny people realize how hard it is to live with obesity- It is not fun nor is it reflective of poor self control. I eat healthy (mostly organic) and exercise regularly, yet everytime I try to diet, I make it so far, and just can't stand the hunger anymore. I never thought I would consider this surgery, but after my doctor suggested it last year, I decided to try once more to lose the weight with the help of a personal trainer. It helped, but I could not afford to keep going. I began to research everything I could about why I was obese, and why I just couldn't get the weight off. I am a busy wife, homeschooling mother of four daughters, active in my church and 4-H, and am pretty disciplined. As I researched, I began to understand what the WLS is really all about - it is a tool to help you reach your goal. After learning all I could, seeing my doctor, and prayer, I decided to move forward with the surgery.
I got a call Thursday afternoon that I had received approval from my insurance company, met with the doctor on Friday morning, and left with a surgery date six days away! (I asked for the soonest date available because I have a family wedding that I didn't want to miss.) I am glad that I don't have a long wait.
Thanks to all of you who have had the courage to do this and have shared your journey here at OH. It has encouraged me more than I know how to express.
