On my way...

Oct 25, 2011

So I have been really busy this month and I swear it feels like the universe is against me. First I went to see my surgeon (first appointment). I work night shift so I went straight after work and guess what? There is a horrible wreck and I get stuck in traffic. I arrived to my appointment (1 1/2 hours from my house) forty minutes late. I got there just in time to find out the doctor has just been called off to an emergency surgery and all morning appointments are being cancelled. So now what? I can reschedule, at least three weeks out or I can come back at 1:30. Did I mention that I had worked all night and that I live an hour and a half from the docotr? Yeah...so.... I decide to take the afternoon appointment and just hang out at Barnes and Noble until then. So I see the surgeon and he agrees that I should have the bypass...Yay!! Now I have a list of things to do for the insurance company. 1.) Prove that I participated in a weight loss program supervised by a doctor for at least 6 months within the past two years. Perfect. I tried Addipex or about 9 months. I leave the name and number of the doctor with the surgeon's secretary so she can request the records. 2.) Obtain a letter of medical necssity from my primary doctor. 3.) Get a TSH blood test. So that was easy I went to my docotr for the blood test and requested the letter at the same time. I left the number for the surgeon so they could fax the letter and the blood test to them when complete. So a couple of days later they call and let me know my test results are normal, no big surprise there. every doctor I have ever seen thinks somthing must be wrong with my thyroid. It's not my thyroid people, it's my stomach! Anyway, I remind them to fax the results and the letter to the surgeon. They don't know what I am talking about. So I give them the number again and tell them it is a letter of medical necessity for bariatric surgery. So this week I call the surgeopn to find out if they have recieved the medical records from my diet doctor...no....what about the TSH and letter from my primary doctor...no...."AAAAGGGGHHHH!!!" Deep bretah, okay I will make some calls and find out what is going on. The doctor's office doesn't know anything about faxing the TSH results or any kind of letter...Really? Are you kidding me?  So I give them the request and the fax number (again). Then the diet doctor tells me there computer system has crashed and that they cannot access any patient records right now. Hopefully by the end of the week the system will be up and running again. And they claim to have no paper records! Last nigth at work someone called from my docotor and is finally working on my letter, so hopefully that is going to be done the next time I call my surgeon's office. I guess I have no choice but to wait on the other doctor. 4.) (What you thought I was done LOL) See a registered dietician and obtain a letter of recommendation. So I leave work this morning and go straight there (Just down he road from the surgeon so we are back to the 1 1/2 hour drive) No traffic this time, however, I got lost. (I didn't know it was just down th road until I got there) Anyway I drive around lost for like 45 minutes. I am almost in tears at this point because I am lost and I am tired and I am afraid that when I finally make it, I will have to reschedule. Alas, I finally make it and they have a parking deck. Problem is the clearance is too low for my van, so now I have to drive around and finda legal place to park and walk to the office...in the heat...up a hill...and far, far away. You do realize I am fat right? So I finally arrive...late, out of breath, and sweaty...great. At least the RD was very kind and I actually enjoyed the meeting and learned a lot. She says she will have the letter to the surgeon by the end of the week. 5.) (oh yeah still more) My final appointment is with the psychologist. I am going there on Thursday afternoon, wonder what the universe will throw at me this time. Hopefully all will be well soon. I will call the surgeon's office on Monday and if the Goddess is in the mood to bless me, they will have finally received all that they need. This is why you should be careful when casting powerful spells. I asked for the courage, strength, and endurance to realize what I need to do to lose weight and overcome any obstacles that should get in the way. In order to overcome obstacles there have to actually be obstacles...more careful wording next time. Anyway, I feel better now that I have released all of this frustration and I am ready to start anew tomorrow. Blessed be!
