2 MORE SLEEPS
on December 13, 2009 11:46 pm
That's right! just 2 more nights before my surgery. only 1 sleep though, because i'm working tonight. We leave for Duluth tomorrow morning at 9am. I would say I'm going to sleep the entire 6.5 hour car ride down there but I probably will be too excited. On top of that my best girlfriends are coming into town the weekend I get home to come and see me and do some intense six feet under marathoning/christmas show watching. I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out. I'm also down 15lbs from the liquid diet. so that's a pretty decent start i think.
Yay!! More updates soooooon

Just a small rant
on December 4, 2009 7:24 pm
I don't post often on here, I just read mostly. Every day I come on here and read up on all the different things people ask or the info they share. But I just can't get over all of the intense personalities!

I'm pretty easy going and I just feel like there is so much FORCE in some people's advice. And slamming people who say the wrong thing. It's just immature. And clawing about which surgery is best or what the different benefits are. GET A LIFE. These people look like fools being so pushy and it's irritating! I just want to learn in a open and inviting atmosphere and this stuff gets old SO fast. I just needed to vent a little. My RL friends don't have a clue what I'm talking about so I thought i'd throw it up on here. I feel much better about it now haha :)

Thanks for listening

19 more sleeps!!
on November 26, 2009 4:21 pm
I am almost holding my breath. 19 more sleeps until my big day! Last Friday I had 2 more appointments in Duluth. The first was with the NUT. In general I really really like the staff at SMDC, but as far as their dieticians are concerned they're way under par. I've seen 2 different ladies now and neither of them have been overly informed about different options when it comes to vitamins and different protein drinks. They were both young and obviously capable of using the computer. If I can do a little bit of research, at $180/hr they sure should be! I purchased celebrate vitamins from bariatric choice.com and even though they gave me the catalouge she had no idea what i was talking about.  I just had to shake my head and move on.

My second appointment was with Mary-Ellen. I really enjoy her. She's just easy to talk to and very pleasant. She went over excerise with me and my options there. Then she thoroughly went over every step of my surgery, from signing in to leaving the hospital. I have absolutely no worries because of it. I was given a great package with everything in it plus maps and parking info for my family as well as different cafeteria options for them - just everything i could think of. My grandparents will be taking me down on the 14th and they like to be VERY oganized so it was perfect!

SMDC also made a pre-op exam appointment for me here in Kenora. Yesterday I had blood work, chest x-rays and an EKG done. I've never had any of that stuff done before so I wasn't sure what would happen, but it was actually really quick! My PCP is going to fax all the results to SMDC and then he'll give me copies to take with me just in case. I really appreciated that because when my mom had her surgery, she showed up at 6am and they didn't have any of it!

I'm 2 days into my liquid diet now too and I'm not finding it too bad at all. I got all of my Carnation Instant Breakfast on Friday and have been really enjoying it.

So, in 19 days at 3:40pm be thinking of me!  I can't wait!

Christmas parties and vitamins.
on November 17, 2009 12:32 pm
Can't believe I'm having my surgery in a few short weeks. I have another preop appointment in Duluth this friday althought I'm not sure what it's for. My mom spoke to Janice about it. Then I have an appointment with my local doc to have a physical and all that fun stuff. I start my liquid diet on the 24th but first I get to have one last hurrah at my work Christmas party on the 22nd. Sort of a nice send off I think.

SMDC gives out a book with vitamin instructions and stuff so I took that and went out in search of some vitamins this week. After checking around to different stores in town (we have a VERY limited selection here) I decided it was probably just easiest to purchase them online. I had  received a bariatric choice catalouge and gave that a flip, but found that bariatriceating.com had some pretty decently priced stuff. BUT once I called to place the order the lady told me there would be a brokerage fee. They can be PRICEY. So I decided to go with bariatricchoice.com. Their website has more selection than the catalouge but not as much as BE. With their free shipping and 10% off on all orders ove $99 it actually worked out to be less than BE. I'm excited to get my stuff!

I also called cub foods today to order the variety packs of carnation instant breakfast. I searched everywhere in Duluth last time I was there to find them and they didn't have ANY. Hopefully they'll rustle some up from the warehouse.

Anyway. just a quick update. another one when i'm back from duluth saturday!

GUESS WHAT....
on November 9, 2009 3:13 pm
I GOT MY DATE TODAY!

Last time I spoke with janice at scheduling she told me it'd be about a 2-3 week wait for scheduling. I called her yesterday to check and make sure my surgical review went smoothly and she said I could book my surgery. DECEMBER 15th BABY!!

I was hesitant at first to have it done so close before Christmas but I figure it's about as good as gift as I could get. There'll be a whole lifetime of other Christmases after this one. It's not the end of the world.

I AM BEYOND EXCITED. I didn't think it would be this soon. I thought I'd have to wait and wait and I'm so bad at waiting, it's almost painful! haha. I hope you other ladies out there get Christmas gifts like this. And seriously, if anyone needs Janice's number, it's worth giving her a call - she gets the job done!!
