8-Days TT Post-Op

Mar 05, 2010

Had my post-op appointment a few days back.  Dr. Berger removed the bandages and I was able to see all of my incisions for the first time.  I LOVE the placement of the incisions.  He did such a great job!  I can see my little belly button - I had almost forgotten that I had one of those.

Dr. Berger gave me the go ahead to remove the binder and instead wear a compression garment like Spanx.  I happened to have a compression camisole that I bought a few months back and never really was comfortable wearing before.  I've been wearing it now and that seemed to help with the swelling a bit.  Plus I can move around a lot better.

He took out the pain pump catheter - wish he would've worn me that he was removing stitches before he started cutting things away.  Minor surprise. lol

The drains are still in, however, which is ok.  I need to call them on Monday and let the office know what the drain outputs are.  He won't make a follow-up visit to remove the drains until they know what the outputs are like and that's okay with me.

Also got the ok to take a shower.  Yay!  I waited until today to do that, however, because I needed someone to help me actually get in/out of the tub.  It's a claw-foot tub and is sorta high so I needed to wait.  It felt sooooo good to shower and wash my hair!

The drains aren't where I thought they would be - he placed them in my left upper thigh near the crease where my torso meets.  I finally had to ditch wearing undies because it was rubbing against one of the drain sites and made it a little red.  I've been putting neosporin and bandaging the area to keep it clean and so that no bacteria gets in.

I have been having a horrible time sleeping at night because of my restless leg syndrome.  Last night I was up until around 2 when I finally decided that I wanted to sleep on my side.  I hadn't asked if it would be okay for me to do so or not and it was too late to call and ask so I searched online and saw that others were sleeping on their side at this point.  It took a little maneuvering but I managed to do it.  I just laid on my back and slowly rolled over to my right side.  I placed a pillow behind me to hold me up and a pillow between my legs for comfort.  I fell asleep fast.

He hasn't told me it was okay to drive, yet, but I was forced to today because I had to pick my car up from the shop.  My son's father drove me over there and then I drove the car back (My sister had driven it over there the other day).  I didn't have anyone else that I knew to pick up the car because it's a stick and everyone else drives automatics and my sis lives too far to come back down.

After picking up the car I drove to the bank to get rent money, then to another bank to cash a check my sis gave me, then to the grocery store.  By the time I got home I was exhausted and took 2 naps.  The shifting worried me.  Because of the drains it hurt a tiny bit when pushing in the clutch.
