The Last real Meal before surgery...drumroll please!

Mar 25, 2011

Well, tonight's dinner will be my last real meal for awhile, so had lots of choices to make...do I totally go for the BAD stuff, like fried everything with full-fat Ranch dressing, or do I downplay all that and have something more subdued and healthier?    It looks like healthier won!  We are having BBQ'd steak (rib eye steaks that had very little fat on them when purchased) with baked potatoes, steamed fresh spinach and these wonderful artisan rolls from the frozen food case that you bake on the oven grate when the steak is almost done, so crisp outside and soft on the inside. (YUM!)  I picked steak because I love a good steak, and it sounds like that will be one of the last foods re-integrated into my post-surgical normal eating.  Luckily my husband & I are already used to sharing meals, so the 2 steaks I am cooking tonight represent 4 servings of steak.  We normally share a potato, but I made 2 so he can have 1 tomorrow night with leftover steak while I am indulging in my favorite clear liquids & protein shakes for the day...and am making a huge bag of steamed spinach so there will be some of that for him tomorrow as well.

I checked my weight at the surgeon's office today, just to be sure I am still holding my own, or headed in the right direction, DOWN 2.2 pounds more...YES!  That made my spirit soar, and even more determined to have a healthier pre-op dinner tonight.

Tomorrow night I am planning to play Bingo with our daughter, which will divert my attention from the colon cleanse I am about to experience on Sunday...nothing like the thrill of maybe winning to hold my attention!

Wish me luck...will write again.     Viv
