Regarding long term affects. I had my rny open 1989.ALex MacGregor Gainesville Fl (retired) I have never regretted it. I have had some problems bleeding ulcer 1991, iron def 1998 had iron intravenious treatments 2000,2002, My blood work been fine every 6mos. Now i had bone scan and have osteo in two bones. my blood work still fine. My general dr. wants me to take Actonel 35mg once week. I fear gi bleeding. Would you recommend another medicine i could recommend to him. ( he has no experience with bypass ) He is really against it all together. Bone Scan should be part of followup ck ups and encouragement to have regular Blood work done. Too many people are being released from their doctors to primary doctors who have no understanding of our problems. I was treated horrible by the hospital in Tampa when i had gastric bleeding in 1991. I ended up back in Gainesville, I followed up my care with Dr MacGregor for 8 yrs til they kicked me back to my primary in Tampa. I am glad this Surgery is finally being accepted it is helping so many people. Thank you for listening Gail Potts Tampa FL
