Hi Sarah, I am having my surgery with Dr. Rumbaut in less than 2 weeks and am so excited. Would you be interested in being my angel as I dont have one yet and I like the idea that you know what to expect. Did you get your 2nd fill? How does it feel? What is the earliest you can get your fill after the surgery? Talk with you soon. Colleen

Hello to a fellow lap-bander. Congratulations on your surgery and please contact me if I can help with anything. I've had mine since 3-25-02 and have lost 52 lbs.

I just got off the phone with Sarah... she's home!! Her mobility is improving and she sounded cheery, having already lost 5 lbs! GOOD WORK!!
The plane flights home from Mexico weren't so great.. the first leg was OK; they got to pre-board and were assigned to seats with slightly more room... and the airline met them with a wheelchair for the ride through Customs and to the new gate. I'm ashamed to say that it was the Seattle airport that let Sarah down... they only brought two wheelchairs even though there were three people who needed them... and then when they finally came back for Sarah 20 minutes later, they brought a very small wheelchair that didn't fit! The attendant took another long time to go get more wheelchairs and then had her trying them to see if she could fit in any of them, IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGERS WAITING FOR THE NEXT FLIGHT! How MORTIFYING! She ended up walking part of the way to baggage claim before he came back with the "extra-large" wheelchair... and then he didn't even stay to help and left James, Sarah's husband, to manage the wheelchair AND the bags. What a NIGHTMARE. But as Sarah says, it sure is nice to be home where it's not 150 degrees out! :-)
Her throat is feeling better and she's got no stitches on the surface of her incisions, just dissolving stitches inside and steri-strips on her skin. Lucky! Her surgery took less than an hour. She'll get her first fill in four weeks; on a straight liquid diet until then. She's going to start trying protein drinks in hopes of finding one that she likes.
GOOD WORK, SARAH, and we're glad you're home!!

FINALLY!! I called Sarah (Princess Young Tiger, welcome to the Ya-Ya Sisterhood!) and they had JUST gotten to her hotel room, a whole day later than they planned. Sarah had terrible problems at the hospital with pain control... the morphine didn't work, something else they tried didn't work, even though they gave her the maximum dose she could have without going to the ICU, and finally they did find an analgesic that seems to have taken the edge off. So she stayed at the hospital an extra day and is now on an analgesic (she wasn't sure which one) and an antibiotic. Poor Sarah!!
She will be flying home to western Washington state from Mexico tomorrow... she and her hubby have a one hour flight to Houston, then a 4 hour flight to Seattle, and she knows that it will be hard. On the bright side, instead of 100 degrees and no air conditioning except when you're actually IN the hotel room, she'll be home in our mid-60s weather! It was only 48 last night here, so she'll be MUCH more comfortable!! YOU CAN DO IT, SARAH!!
Sarah said that the hospital itself was wonderful, hardwood floors, private, and quiet, but she and I both had problems with the language barrier... almost nobody speaks English, as I learned when I called to see how she'd done on Wednesday. She said that she absolutely knows the Spanish word for pain now!
She's getting up and around and is feeling better day by day, but she could sure use your messages of support and encouragement! I'm going to be talking to her again on Sunday after she's home, so bring them on!!

I am incredibly frustrated! I have not been able to get through to Mexico to see how Sarah's surgery went on Wednesday. :-( She should be at her hotel now and I am going to call in the morning, and will hopefully have an update after speaking with her. I am sure all is well, but I want to hear that from her or someone official!!

I wanted to stop in and say I hope your surgery went well, and you have a speedy recovery. You are still in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you are up and out and about again real soon. Cathy Whitmer
