~*~(From my heart to yours)I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.(unknown author)~*~Hugs~*~

DEAR Barbara, I'm very sorry for all of the distress that you have experienced. It is truly a shame. I appreciate your candor in revealing all of the things that "may" happen if you have WLS. When you mentioned that you had had the BPD/DS type of surgery instead of the RNY, I decided to look it up, and found info on the Surgicallyslim.com website. I'm glad your page came to my attention. I hope others read your words along with this info that follows. Thanks~~~Phyllis Moore~February 13, 2003~~~~~~The words that follow come from "Surgically Slim".~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The BPD/DS is a substantially "bigger" operation than the gastric bypass. It is a bigger operation for 2 reasons: In the BPD, a "sleeve resection" of the stomach is performed. This means that major portion of the stomach is permanently removed. The BPD bypasses substantially more small intestine than the gastric bypass. This causes more malabsorption, and the resultant risks of long-term nutritional deficits are greater. It is necessary to take more nutritional supplements after the operation than after gastric bypass. Additionally, there are some very significant side effects that accompany this procedure, the most common being frequent, soft bowel movements. Why would someone want to have a larger operation? There are 2 advantages to this type of procedure: The pylorus remains intact: this usually keeps dumping syndrome from occurring after surgery The larger stomach pouch allows you to eat larger portions than the gastric bypass or VBG.
