Dear Gail, Emotionally we are all a little teary eyed after surgery.I cried at the drop of a hat the first week.I think it has to do with the anesthesia and its after effects. The hard part is over and take a deep cleansing breath and relax.Get plenty of exercise and you will feel stronger every day.Hope you are having some nice weather to walk on the beach! My thoughts are with you,I will call tomorrow when I am awake.Love and encouragement your friend,Carol

Hi, I talked to Gail and she is getting her fluids today! She didn't need to have a leak test. She will probably get her drainage tube taken out tomorrow, it will probably be another doc that does it. She said she probably won't get out of the hospital until Sunday... she wants to wait at least a day after she gets the tube out to leave. She will be staying in California for another couple weeks before flying back to Alaska. So... that's the update for today! Keep her in your thoughts please! Thanks!

**SUBSTITUTE ANGEL WINGING IN** I was able to stop by and see Gail for a couple of minutes. She was sitting up in the chair and looking terrific. Her sweetie was there with her. Unfortunately one of the hospital workers was going over paperwork with her so I couldn't stay long. I'm going back tomorrow to check out how things are going. So far she looked great. Hi, Just wanted to let everyone know that I called down to check on Gail and she answered the phone! It was good to hear her voice! She said at this point the worst thing she is facing is that she is really thirsty (you post ops know... those lemon swabs!) and of course, she won't be able to have anything to drink until after her leak test tomorrow. She said that she thought she was back up to the room about 10am and said she made a trip to the bathroom sometime between 1 and 2. When they had her up, she was asking when she could get up and start walking! (Ain't that great!). The nurse's aide said that was the first patient she had heard ask that so soon after surgery! (Hope I do as well!). She was feeling pretty hot when I talked to her and asked me to call her husband Bill at the hotel to ask him to pick up a portable bedside fan for her (I did). He said that her surgery was 1.5 - 2 hours long, and that the doc said everything went according to plan! So... she is doing fine! She has been in the center of my thoughts ALL DAY, so I am glad everything went well! I told her I would call her tomorrow and see how the leak test went and let everyone know. So... that's the update!

Gail -- I'll be sending you good thoughts throughout the day. Isn't this exciting?! I am very happy that I had the surgery...things have gone very well, and I know they will for you too. Take it easy, BREATHE deeply after surgery, walk soon, take tiny sips, and enjoy the new life you're beginning. Good luck to you, and I'll be seeing less of you when you come home!
