2 days until surgery

Jun 05, 2011

I am excited but I'm sure I will get more nervous as I get closer to surgery.  The liquid diet is getting a little bit easier to deal with.  I've been on it since Tuesday.  The first 2 days were the hardest.  The weight is starting to come off again.  That is the one plus about the liquid protein diet.  I weighed myself this morning and I was 328.  I was 335 on Thursday when I had my weight check.

I've noticed I'm not as hungry as I was the first day or two of the liquid diet.  I am eating a lot of sugar free Popsicles and drinking a lot of propel, smart water and G2.  Friday was kind of a rough day I wasn't feeling so great and I had horrible diarrhea.  I drank two G2's yesterday and I think that helped to re-balance my electrolytes and get me hydrated.  I think I was a little dehydrated.  The main issues I have been having from the liquid protein diet is the diarrhea.  I get to eat a lean cuisine for dinner and I have been adding a can of plain green beans or a microwave steam bag of plain green beans.  I then put on a tiny sprinkle of molly mcbutter on them.  It at least makes me feel fuller and a serving of green beans is only around 20 cals.

I've been using fat free lactaid milk in my protein drink (pure protein powder) and I love the taste.  It makes the protein drinks taste more like a milk shake.  That is what I am mentally telling myself that I am drinking a thick glass of chocolate milk or a chocolate shake.  It has made downing them a little bit easier.  I noticed when first starting the protein shakes that it had a weird taste but after time it has gotten more bearable and I'm actually enjoying them.

I had a weight check with my surgeon on Thursday afternoon.  It went good but he wants me to have a ct-scan before surgery.  They were able to get me in on Monday.  I'm hoping it is enough notice but it seems like it is cutting it close.  I have to pick up barium from the hospital either today or first thing tomorrow morning because my ct-scan is tomorrow.  I'm supposed to start the barium 2 hours before the scan.  He wants me to have the scan done so he can make sure that everything is okay with my pancreas.  He wants to check to see that it is no longer inflamed and that there are no cysts.  He doesn't think there will be any issues with it but he wants to make sure before he cuts me open.  He said if there is issues with my pancreas he would have to close me back up and would not do the surgery. :(  So he said he wants the ct-scan done first to make sure that everything will go smoothly with surgery.
