Starting on my way there...

Mar 22, 2016

I made the decision at the end of February to proceed with gastric bypass surgery with the supplemental goal of being able to be ready for knee replacement surgery for both knees in a couple of years.  Several years ago I had looked into this with a surgeon that my, then neurologist, referred me to.  That Dr. told me I was not a candidate for this surgery and that was really it.  I really never received a real explanation as to why.  Jump to now and my sports med dr suggested I look into it again and see if I could get a real answer.  So what I found out was this original surgeon was only doing the open chest surgery for gastric bypass and since I had horrible post-surgical issues after my C-section he felt the risk to me was far too high.  Now, if this guy had told me this to begin with I probably would not have wasted so much time trying to figure this out on my own.

After a lot of research and attending information seminars I have decided to move forward with Overlake Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Center in Bellevue, WA.

The process is amazing and can be a bit overwhelming, but so far so good!

Here is what I have done so far:

  1. My PCP has given clearance for this to move forward.
  2. My Endocrinologist has given my clearance
  3. My Sports Medicine DR has given me clearance.
  4. I have had my mammogram
  5. All recent blood work has been sent from my PCP to Overlake.
  6. I have had my Psych eval and have been given clearance
  7. I am scheduled for a Consult for a sleep study on April 5th
  8. I have my first appointment with the dietician on April 6th
  9. I have calendared ALL of the Weight Loss Support Group meetings on my calendar and have made the commitment to attend all of them, unless something catastrophic happens I will be there.
  10. I have gone through and figured out a family budget with my husband so I can make this happen.
  11. I have ordered all of my supplements, protein shakes / meals, and all of these items should be arriving today through the beginning of next week.
  12. I downloaded the app Lose It! on my phone and since Monday (3-21-2016) I have logged EVERYTHING I have eaten.  That has been challenging but not horrible.  I am now seeing the daily accountability for caloric in-take.

My mom has offered to come out and help when it is time to have surgery and I am SOOOO going to take her up on it.

Am I there yet?  NOPE, but I am well on my way! :)
