Where do I start?

First of all, I would like to say that I am very happy to have found this site. I thought I was the only one in the world going through weight problems. Not the need to lose 10 pounds kind, but BIG weight issues. I am 25 years old, and as of my most recent physical a couple of weeks ago, am "healthy", with no heart, cholestoral, etc. problems. My BMI is 42. Can I get the surgery? Where do I start? My physician has never even brought up weight loss other than to say I should excersize more (which I already do). Do I go right to the surgeon? Do I find another doctor? I have been heavy all my life, and, well, you name the weight loss program, I've probably tried it. With no luck. This surgery sounds like it could finally be the key to my freedom from this weight problem, but I don't know where to begin. Any advice from those of you who have been through this stage already would be greatly appreciated!
