question re energy after surgery

I have been doing the pre-op diet my doctor told me to do: 1 protein meal replacement a day, no caffeine, no carbs, no carbonation, no sugar. I am doing okay, getting plenty of protein in, but a little weak. I am wondering if after surgery I am going to be weak as well - I won't be getting near as much to eat. Those of you who have already had surgery - are you weak after the surgery? how long does it last? do you eventually get more energy?
