What is an EGD?Can't keep anything down..please help!

I am throwing up at least 5 times a day and my doctor who is a saint..has me flying to N. Y. for a endoscopy and I was hoping that would relieve the stricture, but I am reading about an EGD is that done endoscopically?I am desperate and thirsty please help,I am now three weeks post op.
