Compaired to a gallbladder attack how bad is the pain?

I have never had any kind of surgery before and I am scared to death! What kind of pain will I experience and where? Is it from the insiscion itself? Or does it come more from inside where they have re-routed you (so to speak). I have had several gall bladder attacks that were excruciating painfull. I would not wish that on my worst enemy. Will the pain from the surgery be like that?
