What can I do about my knee pain

My knee continue to hurt, the ER told me that I have athrists in my left knee, and my doctor told me that I have to wait it out because it's my weight. He took x-rays and told me that he did not see anything, but he gave me some pain pills which does not help, so please someone out there please is there anything out there that I can use or take that will help me. Thank You So Very Much.....
