Has anyone gotten life insurance before surgery????

I am not trying to be morbid, but I was thinking that I have no life insurance and IF anything was to happen to me, well, my spouse would be out there trying to raise three children and paying bills, and all that without the help of any life insurance from me. Is there a cheap(er) policy I can get? Has anyone else ever bought life insurance prior to the surgery? I just want to be able to help provide for the family, just in case. Hugs!!
