Is there anyway to get approved for WLS if your policy has an exemption for it?

I have BC/BS of TN and my plan has an exemption to covering weight loss surgery for morbid obesity. I am in serious need of this surgery. Has anyone had any luck with BC/BS with a WLS exemption? If so, what did you do to get approved?
