Hernia Pain. Has anyone used a abdominal binder?

I am 8 weeks post op and have developed a hernia at the top of my scar. It is very painful to stand up, laugh, cough or sneeze. I seen my surgeon today and he wants me to wait as long as I can to have surgery to repair this until I lose as much weight as possible. He advised me to get a abdonimal binder to try and ease some of the pain. He also gave me two shots in the muscle to numb it for awhile. Has anyone ever used a binder to help the pain? as possible.
