Hi, I am a 40 year old man and I currently weigh 425 lbs. I have been large most if my adult life weighing approximately 240lbs when I got out of the Navy in 1986.
Currently, I am in the pre-op mode without a scheduled date yet. I begin my PMRI sessions on Saturday October 1st. I have had all my pre work done ( sleep study etc ) completed and now am working toward getting a scheduled date.

2005

October 7, 2005.. I have a date!! My surgery has been scheduled for November 8th. Obviously I am very excited and extremely nervous as well. I finish my PMRI class on Saturday October 15th. Thanks to all of you who have posted and emailed me their support. I truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

October 10, 2005..Wow, 4 weeks from tomorrow is my surgery
date. It is amazing how fast these days are going now. Everyone I talk to is very excited for me, and that is making me feel a little more relaxed. My wife has also been a lot of support and a big help. Thanks dear.

October 26, 2005...I can't believe I have less than two weeks until surgery. I am still excited yet I get a bit more nervous each day. I am sure everything will go fine, just still nervous none the less. I want to thank all those who have posted messages of support for me, I greatly appreciate the thoughts, prayers and support.

October 30, 2005..Well a couple days closer now...I haven't heard about my insurance approval as of yet, but I am remaining positive that all will go well on that front. Spent some time with the friends in my truck club today, as it was nice outside. They all have show their support and that has definitely made this a little easier for me.

November 1, 2005....One week to go. Wow I can not believe how fast the time is going by.

November 3, 2005...man today just flew by...I am buried at work and i didnt get half my to do list done....I am only working a few hours tomorrow as I have my pre-surgery appointment. so many things to do...everyone at work is excited for me, probably even more excited than me at times....It is really great to have a group of people behind us supporting us along the way...

By the way...I AM APPROVED.... I confirmed today with Dr Wynn's office that BCBS Delaware has approved me for surgery.

Ok, so it is November 6th and I am watching football. I have been living off of water, crystal light, sugar free popsicles and s/f jello. One day and a wake up until surgery and I think I still have enough courage to go thru with this. Thanks again, to all who have sent their comments and prayers. I truly appreciate your kindness.
"A little better today than yesterday".

WELL I AM HOME POST OP: These last few days have flown by..It is Thursday November 10th 1157am and I am already home. Surgery went very well on Tuesday, even took less time than expected. No pain or issues ( couldn't sleep very well after surgery ) but nothing to be concerned about. Am now home beginning the next phase of my new life..thanks for all of the thoughts, prayers and support for me during these past few months...i appreciate each and every one of them

Hi again. It is Monday November 14th, man this weekend flew by. I have started my pureed foods. I must be honest, it is hard trying to get all the fluids and protein in each day. I feel great. Tried some pureed chicken today, it wasnt bad at all. I do have to take 3 different blood pressure meds, and those things are horrible tasting when they are crushed. Takes a lot of getting used to. Have a great day.

Hi all. It's now Friday November 18th and so far all has gone very well. I stepped on the scale today at 380 pounds. That is a loss of 44 pounds from my highest weight and 13 pounds since my surgery a little more than a week ago.
I am feeling great but I am getting kinda stir crazy from being in the house so much. Feel free to drop me an email at dawgs150@comcast.net to ask questions or to just chat. Have another great day.

December 10th...Hi all. Yesterday was my one month follow up appointment and all seems well thus far. My weight is now 365, but I must confess I didnt do to well the last two weeks. I havnet been getting my walking done, so its back to the walking for me. I am now off the pureed food stage and I will be going back to work on Monday. Total weight loss is 27 pounds since surgery and 59 pounds from my highest weight.

2006

Hi all. Today is January 11, 2006 and man do I feel great. I am unofficially at 339 which is a total weight loss of 85 pounds. I have lost 54 since my surgery on November 8, 2005. My eating is going ok, and man it is hard sometimes to get in a 100 grams of protein each day. I must admit, I am feeling so much better now. I am breathing better, moving around a lot better, now if I would just get aggressive with my exercising. Feel free to drop me a line at any time.

February 1, 2006..I had a follow up appointment at PMRI today and ( drum roll ) I am officially down 99 pounds from my highest weight. I have lost 2 inches in my neck and 11.5 inches in my waist. Too cool huh.

March 2, 2006...Hi all. We had to go and put one of our dogs to sleep this morning. Shadow, a beagle mix, was a part of our family for eight years. We adopted her from the local SPCA, in very bad shape, and we gave her the best life we could. She was quite the dog, chasing rabbits and birds, constantly eating and of course that loving yet annoying howl. Shadow has been sick for a while with kidney failure and other ailments. Over the past few days she could not eat, sleep, walk or even stand. Thankfully she went very peacefully.

Shadow, we will see you on the "Rainbow Bridge". Rest peacefully my friend.

March 21, 2006..Hello again. It has been a while since I have updated this profile so here goes...I am currently 4 1/2 months out of surgery. I am down to 309 pounds which is total weight loss of 115 pounds, and a loss of 84 pounds since surgery. I feel great. I am working out at the Y on a regular basis ( 4 times a week ). Thanks to everyone for their support and I will try to update my profile more often.

April 5, 2006...hello again. I have hit, but not broken a milestone for me. I am 300 pounds. I have been hovering at this range for the last few days, but have decided to time to start hitting the Y again and get below this level. I am feeling great and am very pleased with the results I have seen. Thanks agin for all of your support and KEEP ON LOSING!!!!!

May 4, 2006 Happy Thursday. Well today I turn 41... As a weight update, I weighed in at 286 pounds in my primary care doctors office on Tuesday. That gives me 107 pounds lost since surgery and 138 pounds all together. I am now wearing size 50 pants ( started at 64 )...Once again, thanks to all of you for your continued support....

August 2007.. Hi all. I apologize that its been so long since I have updated my account. I am enjoying my new life way too much!! I am down to 225 pounds ( a total loss of 200 pounds ). I am scheduled for plastics surgery on October 8th at 8am. The Dr. said I could have almost 20 pounds of extra skin and an additional 2-4 inches of skin removed from my waist. Too cool huh.
Anyway thanks for reading and feel free to shoot me an email at

Future Update

March 27, 2008 Hi all. How is everyone. I am doing great. I have recovered from plastic surgery. The doctors removed 12.5 pounds of extra skin. My weight is stable at 225 to 230 on any given day. I must confess that I have never hit my personal goal of 199 ( even for a day or two ) so I am trying to get back in the routine if you will...
