4-13-05, I just made my first appointment with Dr. Curry, Im a little nervous but I have until May 9, to get over my fear.
4-26-05, Had my appointment with my regular physican, I love Dr. Wang, she is wonderful. She said having the surgery had risks, but she thought it would be a great idea for me and that she would see me this summer, getting skinny.
4-30-05, I did it, I put my name on the list for Dr. Curry's seminar tomorrow, 5-1-05 at 2:00pm. I'm a little nervous about going, but I need to take the first, well second step and hear what this man is like, before I meet him in person on 5-9-05. I have heard nothing but wonderful things, so we shall see.
5-9-05, Had my first appointment with Dr. Curry and his staff.
Wow, are they together, any questions I had got answered. Erin the dietitian is so cute and really fun to talk to. Tracy, she is the insurance guru, man she knows everything there is to know about the policies, very nice and , really cute pictures of her kids, in her office. Nancy, the program coordinator is really nice and fun to talk to also. I feel like she is someone I can really talk to and be honest about how I am doing, someone that I could actually become friends with outside the office situation. Charity at the front desk greeted me with a smile and a hello, she was very nice and you can tell she knows her stuff. Then there is Dr. Curry, really nice man, answered all my questions and even laughed at some of them as I asked. Hey I wasnt bashfull, I got right down to the good topics. I felt very confortable with him and already feel I can trust him with my body as well as my life. All in all, in my opinion a doctor is only as good as his staff, so they all get 100%......
The list of things I have to do before insurance will look at me case...heart study, diet and exercise with PCP(3months), 2 support groups, Psy. evaluation (rut-ro), walk every day, and meet with nutritionist for 3months...not too bad.
July 1, 2005, Heart cleared, Psy. eval:said I was normal, hummmm...that scared me, Loved David Katkin, he was really funny) and finished everything else....Insurance paperwork sent in.....now I wait.....
July 26, 2005, I got the magical call from Tracy and Erin to say that my insurance had approved me...YEAHHHHHHH
July 27, 2005, I have been scheduled to take the jump to the other side of loosing on August 12th at 10:30am...I have never been so happy about being a LOOSER...hehehehe....
August 2, 2005, Started the full-liquid diet...OMG...is this for real...lol....
August 9, 2005...about ready to kill myself with this diet..No really I have gotten used to not really eating and I think it will help me in the long run after surgery. Kind of like a mind game on your body, getting it used to not really having food to play with.
Aug. 12, 2005...I am so nervous about going into surgery. But, I got to the hospital and the nursing staff was great, helped me relax right away. Anyway, surgery was lets say, interesting. The normal surgery takes about 1 hr. Mine of course took 2. When Dr. C went in he had some interesting complications. My small intestine had never grown to the proper adult size. I have been living with the small intestines of a 5yr. old. So, needless to say he had a hard time connecting them to my new pouch. In fact they had to double sew, glue and then place fat over the connection. Other then that I did fine, but no walking for me until the drink test to make sure I am ok.
Aug. 14, 2005...The drink test...OMG....YUKKKKKKKK......then in the middle of all this the gas pain hit and it hit hard. I was screaming for about 4hrs...the pain was in my chest so bad that they gave me an EKG to make sure it was gas and not a heart attack....they finally gave me enough meds (enough to make an elephant sleep) that the pain was gone and I slept for a while. Oh and the test showed that I had another leak...Yes I said LEAK...so no walking for me....I was in the hospital until Tues. Aug.16th.
Aug. 19, 2005....Another drink test...YES the leak is still there but much smaller...yeah..I get to start Puree foods, but the drainage tube has to stay in longer....ouch....
Aug. 25, 2005.....Another drink test...OMG...I was to vomit this stuff is so disgusting. Anyway, I got through the test and FINALLY the leak is closed and the tube gets to come out..YEAH....And..BTW....Yes it hurts when it comes out, dont let anyone tell you different, its not a sharp pain hurt, its more like someone is taking something out of your body, which they are. But the second its out there is this feeling of movement, you feel like your left side is yours again. Since, I am so special..hehhe..I have to see the great Dr. C in 2 weeks instead of the normal 4 weeks but thats ok...I was told that in all the cases that Dr. Curry has had mine was the most interesting and hard to do...I have always been to special..ehhehhe....
Feb.12, 2006....I am 6 months out from my first surgery and have lost a total of 125 Lbs...woohoo...
