Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

From birth I have had a weight issue. My memories of a packed lunch of low cal foods at school are painful. I learned very early that good food was bad food. That was the beginning of the "I feel bad, I ate that" feeling. By the time I reached my twenty first birthday I had discovered that if I only ate 1/2 of my plate I would only be 200lbs instead of 300lbs. It wasnt to loose weight, it was to keep from gaining more weight! Only starvation worked to loose weight. I always wondered what it would feel like to be "normal" but would push it out of my mind so depression would"nt set in. I knew I would never be "normal.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The constant mindset of failure, every day, every second, I felt failure.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Waking up in the morning feeling like I can do it! Just the knowledge that I dont have to worry from sun up to sun down on what I should eat on that day. All food use to be an enemy. Now its my healthy friend.
