Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Hi...I've battled with my weight most of my late teens and into adulthood. When I first became a letter carrier, my weight came off extremely fast, as I was only 22 years old! I was able to keep it off until I had multiple pregnancies that ended in miscarriages and injuries on my job. Just as soon as I got the weight off, it would come back with a vengeance! Some times gaining more weight then I took off! It became extremely depressing! I've tried fitness bootcamp...medical weightloss...everything! No matter what I tried...it would get it off..but never able to keep it off! I went from a size 16 to a size 6 to a size 10 to now a size 20!! From 201 lbs to 146 lbs to 187 lbs to currently 237 lbs!! I'm only 5'3 on top of that! I'm scheduled for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in a few weeks. I so look forward to getting my life back!

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

Not being able to walk far without being in pain or tired! Not being able to fit into clothes comfortably! Getting rashes around my stomach or lines on my arms from my bra straps! Being unhealthy overall.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I'm excited because my surgery date is coming soon! Update 11/12/13 I had my surgery 04/24/2013 it was very painful, but so worth it! I love the way I look in clothing now! I feel so much healthier! I sleep better and I feel lighter! I workout and eat nothing but healthy foods, something I didn't do previously. My final step is a Tummy Tuck surgery. I lost weight and a lot of it, however, I still have a lot (too much) loose skin in my stomach area. Sometimes it interrupts my workout and can be painful.
