    Dr. Voravit Wongsa received his MD degree from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, in 1979, and later, a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK. He completed surgical residency training from St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ, in 1985. While at St. Barnabas, he learned bariatric surgery from Dr. Lubomyr Kuzmak, a pioneer bariatric surgeon at the time. After finishing residency, he went back to teach at the medical school of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok for several years until 1994, when he returned to practice in the United States. Since the beginning of his practice in general and bariatric surgery he has always been impressed with the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass operation for the definitive treatment of morbid obesity. In August 1999, he started using the laparoscopic method for the procedure, and has since performed over 1,400 Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass operations with successful result. Dr. Wongsa is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
