Our Philosophy: Chronic health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and even obesity should be managed at the root of the problem instead of just controlled with pills or costly medical devices.    We've seen many patients wean off of their medications or at least significantly reduce their doses as their bodies get healthier.

Dr. Wiita’s Profile/Bio:
Sandy Wiita, MD has an undergraduate degree in Food Science and Nutrition from the University of Minnesota.  She trained as a dietitian in the Coordinated Undergraduate Program and passed the Registration Examination, becoming an RD in 1998.  She went on to Medical School at the University of MInnesota and then into the Mayo/St. Cloud Hospital Family Practice Residency Program.  After graduating from residency, she took a position as an Eating Disorder Specialist, combining her Nutrition and Medical backgrounds to treat patients with various types of Eating Disorders at the Park Nicollet Eating Disorders Institute.
 
During her years of working with Eating Disorder patients, Dr. Wiita developed a keen interest in treating obesity.  Having a family history of morbid obesity and struggling with her own weight, Dr. Wiita began her quest to become a Bariatrician by joining the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.  She attended several national conferences and completed a significant amount of continuing  medical education in the treatment of obesity, enough to qualify her to take the examination administered by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine.  She was proud to have received the second highest score on the National Bariatric examination in 2009.
 
Dr. Wiita took a new position as a Bariatrician at the Park Nicollet Bariatric Surgery Center, where she gained experience working with patients before and after weight loss surgery.  She then moved on to develop a medical weight management program at another facility before finally deciding to go into private practice.  Dr. Wiita is very excited to have the opportunity to see patients in her new clinic, and she is thrilled to be working with a team of professionals who share her passion for treating weight problems and the medical conditions that often accompany obesity.
