    Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding, Bariatric Surgeon

    Dr. Christing Ren-Fielding is internationally recognized for her contributions to the field of bariatrics. She received her medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine and completed her residency at NYU Medical Center. She completed her fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

    Dr. Ren-Fielding is the founder of the NYU Langone Weight Management Program and is a Professor of Surgery at NYU Langone Health. She is also Chief of Bariatric Surgery Initiatives for the NYU Langone Medical Center Comprehensive Program on Obesity. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).

    Dr. Ren-Fielding - Award Winning, Experienced Surgeon

    Dr. Ren-Fielding has performed more than 4,000 weight loss surgeries, including 2,500 gastric bands. Because of her vast experience, she has been involved in training residents in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. She was awarded Best Performer in Bariatric Surgery at the University Healthcare Consortium and has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2005. She also has received the YWCA American Women’s Achievement Award and is a recipient of the Crain’s 40 Under 40 Award.

    As a highly respected obesity and bariatric educator, Dr. Ren-Fielding has been published in over 230 journals and dedicates many hours to research. She serves on the editorial board for three publications which are devoted to the surgical treatment of obesity.

    Committed to Weight Loss Surgery Advocacy

    Considered to be a pioneer in Lap-Band surgeries, Dr. Ren-Fielding is also a strong patient advocate. Her work as the insurance committee chairman of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) led to the creation of 11 CPT codes for bariatric surgery. These codes have helped millions of individuals to become eligible for weight loss surgery and have helped to save and change many lives.

    Dr. Ren-Fielding performs most available weight loss surgery procedures including the Lap-Band, Roux-en-Y (RNY), Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS), and bariatric surgery revisions. She also performs the Gastric Balloon procedure which does not require surgery.
