Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Norwalk Hospital Dr. Neil R. Floch graduated from Tufts University in 1988 with Magna cum Laude honors. He performed research at Boston University School of Medicine Department of Vascular Surgery and received his degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. He completed five years of surgical residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where he was the chief resident in surgery.
Dr. Floch performed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic with the pioneer of laparoscopic heartburn surgery, Ronald A. Hinder MD. At the Mayo Clinic he developed an expertise in laparoscopic stomach surgery. He also obtained advanced laparoscopic training in all aspects of abdominal surgery. He is a renowned medical author and has published over 20 journal articles and three book chapters and he co-authored Frank Netter s Gastroenterology. He obtained the title of Associate attending at the Mayo Clinic where he held privileges at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville Florida.
Dr. Floch was trained in laparoscopic bariatric surgery by Dr. Raul Rosenthal who is a world renowned bariatric surgeon at The Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. He spent many years prior training at bariatric courses including the Mount Sinai Bariatric Course in N.Y.C. with Michelle Gagner MD. His bariatric surgical proctorship was performed by Dr. Raul Rosenthal at Norwalk Hospital. He was trained and supervised to perform the Lap-Band® procedure by Dr. George Fielding, a pioneer. He is a choice provider of the Allergan Company for placement of the Lap-Band®, Vanguard Band® and AP Lap Bands. He has been trained and currently performs the Realize Band. He is currently the only surgeon performing the Stomaphyxx procedure in New England. Dr. Neil Floch has been voted as a Top Doctor by The Consumers Book as voted upon by his peers. Currently, Dr. Neil Floch is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric, The Society of American Gastroendoscopic Surgeons and The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is on the editorial board of the prestigious journal: The Gastroenterologist. He is certified by the American Board of Surgeons and licensed in New York, Connecticut and Florida.
Dr. Floch is the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at Norwalk Hospital. He personally designed and instituted the first two advanced minimally invasive operating rooms in Fairfield County when he became laparoscopic director in 2002. Dr.Neil Floch spearheaded the Center of Excellence Program at Norwalk Hospital which achieved it s ranking of Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in September 2006. Dr. Neil Floch achieved the ranking of surgeon of Center of Excellence by The Surgical Review Corporation/ American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He is a nationally renowned, expert lecturer on surgery for heartburn, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, laparoscopic bariatric surgery and laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair. Dr. Neil Floch was the first to perform bariatric surgery in the group and was the first fellowship trained advanced laparoscopic surgeon in Fairfield County. Dr. Neil Floch has extensive experience with interoperative endoscopy and reoperative bariatric surgery. Together with his partners, they have performed over 3000 bariatric operations.
Dr. Floch is featured in the Consumer s Guide to Top Doctors as one of the 2009 Best Physicians as chosen by their peers. Dr. Floch has been designated as a TOP DOC by Connecticut magazine.
