James Buwen Bariatric Surgeon DO

Dr. James Buwen is a general surgeon with specialty training in bariatric surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Buwen graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He completed his residency training at Rowan University-SOM, Stratford, NJ, Kennedy University Hospital/Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital, serving as Chief Surgical Resident from 2013 to 2014. After residency, Dr. Buwen completed a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.   Dr. Buwen is a candidate member of the Society of the American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society For Metabolic And Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), an associate member of the  American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association. He is a recipient of the ASMBS Certificate of Training in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery for Fellows.
