About meWelcome to my Web page. My name is Dr. Scott Um. I practice general and bariatric surgery at Kaiser Permanente's West Los Angeles Medical Center. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2012 and it is one of the best decisions I have made.BiographyI was born in South Korea. My family came to the United States when I was 10 years old. In high school, I immediately realized that I wanted to become a physician when I started volunteering at a local hospital. I watched patients suffering in pain, and I wanted to do something for them. I wanted every patient to get better so that they could be home with their families and back to their normal lives.About my practiceI practice general and bariatric surgery at the West Los Angeles Medical Center. With my additional training in minimally invasive surgery, I perform most operations using the laparoscopic technique. The most common general surgery cases I perform are appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colectomy, various hernia repairs, partial gastrectomy, and soft tissue excisions. Bariatric surgery cases I perform are Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric band removal, and complicated revisions.How I thriveEveryone needs to smile and show a positive attitude all the time.
