Shedding Pounds, Shedding PAIN!!!
Last night Roni and I attended our surgeon's support group mtg. I found one of handouts to be very insightful, so I thought I'd type it out for all of you!!!
SHEDDING POUNDS, SHEDDING PAIN
?Weight loss proposes to give: happiness, self-esteem, confience, love, success, acceptance, fulfillment, satisfaction etc.
?It often gives: fear, pain, resentment, anger, disappointment, delusion, low self-worth, sadness, sense of failure, frustration etc.
STAGES OF SHEDDING POUNDS
?Stage I: Excitement - Changes in size, attention from others, new activities and experiences, mobility
?Stage II: Restlessness - The "high" isn't high enough, weight loss slows down and motivatin wavers
?Stage III: Fear - Of putting weight back on, never being lobed or accepted by others, things in your life aren't "fixed", never good enough even if you're thin.
STAGES OF SHEDDING PAIN
?Stage I: Identify the real pain clearly
Name the person or events involved
Claim the feeling or issues that have caused you to go to food.
?Stage II: If you don't know the pain, use this food as a guide to narrow down the issue:
Sweets = need for nurturing, comfort, help reassurance.
Bread/Pasta = control, dominance, perfection, need to be right, never fail.
Liquids (such as alcohol) = being alone, isolated, left out or behind
Snacks = need to make a decision, pick a side, trying to please too many
people, indecisive
Large Portions = humiliation, betrayal, deep hurt/anger or resentment,
non-trusting
Fast food = in a rut, highly chaotic or bored, extreme emotions, avoidance
of issue
?Stage III: Make a conscious decision = NO MORE PAIN! Decide if you still need "the payoff you are getting from holding on to the pain." If not, you will be able to let it go.
?Stage IV: Change the mental and verbal things you tell yourself to what you NEED them to be per occurrence. Repeat as often as necessary until you change your beliefs.
You WILL become what you want to become; nothing more, nothing less! So dream BIG!
