Endocrinoligist's opinion on supplementing with soy
I know that I have posted about this before and the information I provided was from web research.
Well, I asked my endocrin about soy & thyroid.
His response ... "soy supplementation could be toxic to your thyroid while you are taking synthroid, I advise you not to use soy. "
I have a huge amount of respect for this man. He is an expert on thyroid and the disorders it causes. I value his opinion much moer thatn my surgeons or PCP when it comes to my thryoid issues. He played a huge role in me getting preggo with Grace and he also helped me with WLS. He always brings me into his office and we sit and talk about physical and emotional/mental conditions as your thyroid affects your whole body and processes.
For what it is worth ....
God Bless
Thank You Jen on your article....
Your right my primary and one of the doctors at Kaiser that does the surgery states there is no proof that it is not bad. But after asking different doctors from Stanford Hospital and UCLA medical center I feel like no one really knows anything..
I wonder if there is a that would show that soy is bad for you..If you know can you please pass the information on to me...Thank You Jen.......Suzan

I think the true issue here is found in your quote, "while you are taking synthroid". Your thyroid is not functioning normally. It may be that soy interferes with the processing of synthroid in the body. I have found no evidence to suggest that soy products pose any problem for those of us with normally functioning thyroids.
In your case, you should certainly follow the advice of your endo, he sounds like a great person. I'm sure you know that not all health care providers have that kind of bedside manner. I think you've found a gem.
