How do you feel fullness?

I have noticed the past week or so that I am battling more head hunger and I actually have an appetite, which hasn't happened in quite a while. I try to stop eating when I feel full, as I'm so worried about overeating and stretching my pouch back out. My question to you all is -- how/where do you feel full? I never feel full in my "stomach", but usually somewhere in my chest/throat. Whi*****identally, is the same place that I feel it when I eat too fast. So I am sometimes having a hard time telling whether or not I am full. How do yall tell?

Well the reason you feel fullness in your chest is because that is where our pouches are! I try to stop eating before I feel it...to me it is very uncomfortable; like heartburn almost without the burn. We are supposed to eat really slow because it takes the stomach 5 mins to tell the brain we are full. When we feel this "chest ache" we ate beyond what we needed. I generally just stop when I feel content. But every once in a while I take it too far pay for it for a good 10 mins or so. Dawn

I have eaten relatively slow up until the last week or so and then for some reason, I just don't concentrate on it as much. I have really tried for the last few days to slow back down, as I don't like feeling that "full chest" sensation, either.

You may laugh, but I know I am full when my nose starts to run. I know others that sneeze. I feel it in my stomache too. Right where it always has been. If I feel it in my throat, I ate too much.

I have read this in other places, but this is not something that happens to me. I don't feel my stomach much at all anymore (unless it's due to constipation - TMI) and never when I eat. Do you think your nose will always run?

I've heard of people several years out that still sneeze, so I might still have it years from now. If I were you, since you can't feel fullness, I would measure my portions. That way you will not over fill. I am not as worried about stretching my pouch as being ill from that one too many bites. I still do that. But I also know how much I should eat and only have that on my plate, if I get talking, I can eat more than my portion and be in trouble.

Lisa, I don't feel full either. I just eat the proper portion and stop. I do know I have had enough when I hiccup after eating! Teresa

I hiccup too! My husband laughs now when I'm eating and I hiccup. He knows that's the signal that I'm done! I try to go mainly by measurements of my food and really taking my time eating. If I don't eat slowly, it is too easy to eat that one bite that puts me over the edge from satisfied to uncomfortable.

LOL -- I do that sometimes, too. Although mine are those little, painful hiccups. I am also trying to pay more attention to my portions, as I can now eat more than in the past. I know that this is normal to some degree, but I live in fear of stretching things out and failing the surgery.

Lisa, I have never felt full since surgery. I woke up hungry. There are a small number of people that experience hunger after surgery, I happen to be one of them. The other night I ate 7/8 of a LARGE Wendy's Chili and did not feel full. I think my feelers are broken? I do sometimes hiccup after eating and I have read that that is a signal that you are full. God bless, Jen
