Last Night.......

Hi all~ I got a few IMs last night wondering where I was and why I didn't post my hydrate totals. Well let me tell you what happened. I was online talking to Kristi D and I was noticing that I couldn't see....sorta like I just looked up at the sun. I didn't say anything because I thought, "Maybe I DID look at something bright not thinking." I got worse from there. When I stood up I almost collapsed, I was so dizzy and lethargic. I told Nick to get my blood sugar machine and I tested.......64!! Very low...60 is considered hypoglycemic. So I made a decision (very grudgedly) to drink a glass of regular Kool Aid and go to bed. I feel much better today. Dawn

Dawn, I am glad you are feeling better! Please take care of yourself! It gets very scary when someone is sick. How did the kool aide taste to you. I bet it was really sweet! Yuk isn't it funny how our tastes change? I hope you have a good day! I am headed out the door to watch my daughter play softball. ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

Chris~ I had bought these kool aid packets like the crystal light on the go and I put it in a 16 oz glass of water...you were supposed only use 8. So, in answer to your question, it wasn't TOO sweet. Dawn

Ooooooo scary. I'm glad you had your machine so you could test. I have felt strangely before and tested, just to be sure my blood sugar was in range (it always has been, thankfully, though on the low side of normal). I have a glucometer because I was gestational diabetic during my pregnancy with the twins. Have you ever felt like that before since WLS? Had it been awhile since you had eaten? In my case, it had been awhile but I keep reminding myself to not go for longer periods of time before eating something...even if it's just a couple of peanuts. I'm glad you're feeling better today! Chele~ The only times I had low blood sugar problems preop was when I was pregnant. I had just got done eating about 1/2 hour before it happened....although my dinner had no carbs or sugar at all. Dawn

Your post reminded me of when I was at the mall about 6 weeks post WLS. I hadn't eaten in a few hours and was walking around briskly...marathon shopping trip. I started feeling dizzy, weak and even a little nauseous. I knew it was low blood sugar just by the way I felt so I was trying to figure out what I could eat in the food court (a daunting task for someone 6 weeks out!) I ended up with steamed veggies from Panda Express, which got "stuck"...but I knew I had to eat something. It did help though. I hope it doesn't happen to you again! Chele

Dawn!! I am glad you are better today. I don't know if I could handle the taste of regular kool-aid! If my sugar was low I guess I would hold my nose to drink it! I have noticed posts on other boards of people having sugar problems (high and low) all of a sudden. So it can happen to anyone even years after WLS. I was wondering where you were last night I was watching for your totals. Glad you are back today, hon. Julie
