Well as of May 23 I will be 4 months Post op. Now 1 year ago at this time I weighed 340lbs. I now weigh 240, so I AM happy about that. Since surgery I have lost 81lbs. I don't regret having this surgery ONE BIT. I have had no complications, can eat almost anything and not get sick. TRYING to hard on protein and water intake. Been getting exercise not as much as I should I know. But working on it. I got the bat wings, OH YEAH. I could jump off a building and FLY if I flap my arms enough. BUT now the side effect of my hair coming out has started. It comes out in clumps in the shower. I have tried eating more seafood, LOTS of tuna. I CANNOT do the protein drinks. I have been trying to eat chicken, turkey, some pork & beef. I am taking all my vitamins, calcium, Biotin, B12 sub, and 2 stool softeners (GOTTA take those) Anyone else having the side effect of hair loss also at this point? I knew it was or I knew it could have happened. I just HOPED it wouldn't. Any other suggestions?? Should I get some Rogaine? Melissa

Oh my Go****hought that you were talking about me! Every day with I take a shower or brush my hair I lose a hand full of hair. I had hair that was about 3/4 the way down my back and I just cut it where it is a little bit below my shoulders. I thought that if I took some weight off of it that it would be better. WRONG!!! When I wash or bru**** looks like I am a chemo patient. I used to have thick hair. I too have been taking and doing everything that I am supposed to. I didn't know that there was options for women with hair loss? Jenn

Melissa, I had surgery the same day as you, and I have been noticing the hair loss for at least two weeks now. Thank God, I had really thick hair to begin with, so it is only noticable to me, but I did just ask my Nutritionist about this. Here is what she told me...NOTHING will change it. You can take all the vitamins and rogaine, etc.. you want but it is just something you get or you dont get. Now, everyone here will have different opinions, i am just telling you what my nut said. The good news is it is highly unlikely you will go bald.Mine has started to slow down, it was all over my clothes daily, but now it just comes out in the shower. My question is (for anyone else that might know) when does it stop??? Good luck to you! Karyn

Hey - I am going through the same thing - mine does not come out in clumps thankfully, just 4-6 strands each time i run my hands through my hair when washing and styling. I also contacted my nut and he said to make sure I'm meeting protein goal and take Biotin. I just purchased the Biotin and have been trying to do better on the protein goal. I have noticed the hair loss going on 2 weeks also. I would like to know when this will stop - it's freaking me out! !

Mine is the same way. Theory says we can't prevent or stop it. Only thing we can do is wait. Usually occurs at 4-9 months. Stops after that per what I have read or been told. There is a good book called " weight loss for dummies" I purchased it and it basically states the same things. We can try zinc, hair and nail vit, biotin and vitamin E, yet not proven effective towards hairloss. If our hair was thin to begin with, we would probably notice, yet no-one goes bald I am told. Hopefully it stops soon for us!! Take care!! Andrea

I too started loosing my hair a month ago. There are times when it doesn't come out, and then days like today when hundreds of hairs came out. One thing that will lead to worse hairloss is low protein. I know you said you can't take the shakes, have you tried EVERYTHING? Even the vials Isopure? They are not a shake and are fruit flavored. Also there is the flavorless ones that you can add to your food. If you add it to everything, you only have to add a small amount. I like the Profect Dutch Chocolate from GNC, it is only 6oz. a serving, for 25g or protein. If the protein shortage is not what is causing the hairloss, there is nothing but time that can stop it. You can get the new hair to grow in stronger by taking biotin, but that is all. I have taken biotin from day one. You can see my hairloss if you know where to look, along my hairline, it is back aways. It started on the left side, now it is the right side. I still get a little depressed and wonder if I should cut it shorter. I did get a real good hairstyle and color with highlights, it helps make my hair look fuller.

ok ok ok, I got some protein drink. I have tried LOTS of protein drinks and CAN'T STAND EM. So I tried one more and it was actually good. Muscle Milk-Cookies and cream. Thats the only flavor I have tried so far, but if the rest taste as good, I am getting MORE. Thank you for all your reponses. I know its something I gotta deal with. My 4 month post op pics are NOW up. GOD BLESS everyone, Melissa
