Can't eat meat

Hello everyone, I have a problem and wondered if anyone else had this problem. I can't eat meat whether it's moist or not. Chicken, pork and beef only visits me for a short while. I can tolerate very small amount of finely ground meat or fish, but not enough to constitute significant protein. After much trial and error I found a protein drink/smoothie that I concoct each morning. This is the only pure protein I can tolerate. It consists of 1/2 cup of plain nonfat yogurt, a splash of orange juice, 1/2 frozen banana OR 3 frozen strawberries, and 1 scoop isopure 0 carb peach/mango protein powder. I add splenda to taste and mix it in my magic bullet. It is very good and provides 30g of protein. I don't dare to drink more than 1 of these smoothies per day because of the fruit. I like the bottled isopure drinks but can't afford them. I can eat cheese, legumes and veggie burgers, but I worry about the soy because I take thyroid replacement. Also, I can't drink milk. Seems I'm somewhat lactose intolerent. Any suggestions on how I can get enough protein in a larger variety? Thanks for your input. Karen

Hi Karen, I'm the same way, can't eat meat really at all. Like you said, maybe alittle very ground meat or fish, that's eat. Thank god for cheese. I live off of it. It was really hard at first, I felt very stressed over it, then I took a step back and said "This is only temporary." My nutritionist wants me to get 79 grams of protein in, I lowered it to 60-70 so I wouldn't stress. Some days I get more, some days maybe a little less. One day I hope to be able to tolerate meat, but till then I do what I can. I have 1 protein shake a day, and the rest of the day I have cottage cheese (Half a cup can have between 13-15 grams of protein) regular cheese, and recently tried eggs again after not being able to tolerate them, and doing good with them now. Just plain yogurt is good for protein too, but i don't like ti very much. So here's to cheese...

Hi Christie, I found I couldn't tolerate regular eggs, any way, so I asked my nutritionist about it. She basically chastised me and said I am only supposed to eat egg beaters (or their generic equivalent.) I guess there's too much fat in regular eggs. I tried egg beaters and they went down fine. So chalk one up for the nutritionist. I thought I'd mention this incase you are still having some problems with eggs. Thanks for you response. Karen

Meat usually does not work for me, either, sometimes I can do a little chicken. Bacon worked well for awhile but now is not sitting well which is good. Eggs are my backbone as are beans and boca products. I use the crumbles and chick'n patties as well as the breakfast sausage patties. Gardenburger has a riblet with BBQ sauce that has 17g protein and little sugar, its great. And then there's cheese....god bless cheese. Soy milk works great, cant handle the regular or CC milk. Sometimes I spray my chicken breast or thigh with spray olive oil before cooking. My nut said this is OK for the first 8 months if it helps me eat. ~Tiffany

Although I have the lapband, I've been noticing that lately I am not tolerating meats too well either, so I am going to head back to eating Lentils, beans, and Shrimp (which goes down fine for me****il I can work my way back to eating chicken. I love chicken but I think my body is chickened out for now. All I know is I better start taking some vitamins cause my hair is starting to fall out. Good Luck to you!!! Kelli
