To color or not to color...

Since the topic of hair loss came up today, I thought I'd ask your thoughts on whether or not to color your hair. I've even been afraid to get it cut since it's all falling out right now. You can see my roots, however, from a mile away. I've got multi-tonal foil highlights that I usually have touched up every couple of months. I've put off coloring my hair for the last few weeks for fear the chemicals will make the hair loss worse. What's yall's opinion on covering my gray and my roots?

Hi Lisa, you know I went thru this about a week ago. I took the plunge and colored it anyways cause I really needed to cover my gray. I have noticed its not falling out any faster now that i have colored it. I wish you the best of luck with the decision! Sue

Thanks! I'm hoping it won't cause anymore of mine to come out. I'm going to do it this weekend, I think.

Since I have foil highlights -- I always get it done professionally. I'm barely talented and graceful enough to color all one color without dying some of the bathroom carpet, my ears and upper neck. LOL.

I color mine. First off it makes my hair thicker and when highlighted, it helps the over all look. It has made no difference in the hairloss colorin gor not. Have fun and make yourself feel better.

Lisa, it sounds like everyone is in agreement that it will not make the hair loss any worse, so i say go for it! I color mine all the time, I had it done when i was about 4 weeks out, and my hair didnt start falling out until after 3 months, but I do agree to get it done professionally, the stuff they use is much gentler on your hair. Post some pice if you decide to go for it! Karyn

Thanks for the input. I always have it done professionally since they are foil highlights (which is something I've never tried on myself). I have just let my roots grow out (along with the gray) much longer than they should have while waitnig for some of the hair loss to slack off.

I highlighted my hair twice since surgery and I haven't had any "more" hair loss than before I colored it. I really wanted to get a perm to add body but that's one thing I fear will make my bald for sure!! Dawn

Dawn, I've been wanting to get my professionally straightened and promised myself I'd fork over the money when I lost 100 (as my little reward to myself). However, I've been thinking about the possibility of going bald with those chemicals, as well. LOL -- I might have to wait until the 125/150 pound mark, huh?
