Would you be mad????
I would like your opinion...Please?
My daughter is now 18 and a friend with her ex boyfriends Mother (I think the woman is weird)
Anyway when my daughter was 13 my father-in -Law passed away from emphysema....We were all very close to him. She wrote a poem for him shortly after...Here it is..
~The Missing Piece~
It seems almost forever
since I've last seen your face
Everywhere I go I notice somethings out of place.
You are gone forever, but always in my heart
My life forever more, you will always be a part.
Nothing can ever replace the memories we've shared.
You're the missing piece inside me, without you I am bare.
My daughter has this poem on her MYSPACE....
Well back to my question?? The ex-boyfriend's Aunt passed away in November and my daughter was very supportive. The Mom decided to take my daughter's poem and put it in the paper for a memorial for her sister and never told my daughter. When you read the paper it did not mention that my daughter was the author of the poem but it did look like the poem came from the Mother. She thinks she has done nothing wrong! Do you agree? I think she was totally wrong and should apoligize to my daughter. My daughter was very hurt and this mother did nothing but yell at my daughter saying she was immature and should take it as a compliment! Let me know what you think..
~~hugs and well wishes~~
Chris

First off, it is against the law to do what she did. Your daughter had it on the web and did not give permission for it to be used. Now doing anything legally is probubly not right, but you can report it to the newspaper and let them know that it was not printed with permission. Look up the law on plagerism (sp) and hand it to this woman. The part to look for would be publishing.
Then have your daughter write how upset this has made her and give it to this woman. Also, have your daughter put on her web page what happened so others wont be tempted to do the same and can also add their support.
Chris,
I think I would be more hurt than mad at the betrayal. An apology to your daughter is definitely deserved.
Google "Plagiarism Laws" and see what you can come up with.
I would contact the newspaper also and tell them that this was printed without permission and ask them to print a correction with your daughter's name credited as the author.
God Bless,
Jen
