Sugar or No Sugar?
I wanted to ask how eveyone does with sugars? Do you get sick or can eat it with no problem? Sugar does tend to bother me, but its not real consistent ... sometimes just a tummy rumble and other times sick! I ate a little "real" ice cream the other night and did ok. I tried an even smaller portion last night and got sick!
Another time I bought some SF ice cream and tried it and got really sick. When going back and reading the label (yup ... stupid me didn't read it before buying ... smack), the sugar alcohol was really high. I've had problems before with sugar alcohol so I think it bothers me more than "real" sugar.
But I've talked to others at my WLS Support Group who say sugar has never bothered them at all!
How about you?
Debbie
I've been eating the Bryer's Sugar Smart Krunch Bar. At least I think that's the name of it:shrug:
It's an ice cream bar with no sugar added. It has 150 calories and even has 4 grams of protein. I haven't had any trouble with it and it hasn't bothered my blood sugar either.
I can't do regular sugar due to my diabetes.
But that's the only thing I've tried so far.
sugar is not a problem for me: love sugar....love sugar derivatives...love sugar alcohols...love sugar creamed together in a bowl with butter for cookies....am an equal opportunity sugar user meaning: I love brown sugar, too...love sugar...love sugar....love fructose....love sucrose...love corn syrup...love honey....
I'll stop now.

Debbie, I know this is gonna sound weird, but I am terrified of sugar so I haven't touched anything that has more than 10 grams per serving since surgery. My docs and Nuts have me convinced that sugar will make me sick and I HATE throwing up, I sob like a baby when I get sick. I have tried a lot of s/f stuff and once I had s/f ice cream and it gave me diarrhea(Sorry, TMI) and once I had 3 pepp. farm s/f milanos and I got cramps and sweats and passed out for a few hours. Other than that I can tolerate most s/f stuff. I feel I am better off NOT knowing if I can tolerate sugar, that way I know I will never abuse it again.

Sugar Alcohols really bother me. I ate 4 SF Oreos (I read about them on this board!!) and was nauseous for quite awhile, I even fell asleep and had the runs. They were really good, however, and I've contemplated having another but dont want to do that again.
When choosing food, I never go about 10g sugar in a food, avoiding anything processed.
If I accidentally eat something that is too sugary, I chase it with a bite of protein. Its helped balance me out.
