Hi everyone I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Now that I am 6 months out as of today I wanted to get some suggestions from those of you who may have any re: a typical days menu and calorie intake-I have been told to incorporate more carbs into my eating plan because I fell into the trap of just eating chicken, tuna, eggs, cheese etc and thats it, the weight loss of course is great however my nutritionalist said I cant eat like that for the rest of my life and I need to eat more fruits, veggies and whole grains-I guess I am in the mind set that I will stop losing if I eat anything other than protein. I do 45 min of cardio a day and weightlifting for toning everyother day so I need to make sure i get in enough calories as well. If anyone could provide me with any advice and or ideas I would greatly appreciate it.-Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori I usually have some fresh fruit in the morning with my cottage cheese. A few strawberries or some green grapes. And with Dinner I will try and have a fresh steamed veggie eg., asparagus, mushrooms or broccoli. I try and stay away from break, rice and pasta's.

I can relate to your concerns... I too have recently started adding more veggies & fruit (and thus more carbs). I have limits as to how many calories, carbs, and fats I can eat daily. Has your nutritionist gave you any sort of limits? With the set number limits, I feel free in that I can eat what I like, so long as I get in my protein and stay below my calorie/carb/fat limits for the day. I most often pair fruit with cottage cheese... then veggies with chicken. My limits are as follows: Calories: can not have more then 800 per day Fats: no more then 30 Carbs: no more then 40 Protein: no less then 70g Now, I am different, I had VG- so I absorb all of what I eat. RNY numbers are typically higher, since they do not absorb all of their intake. Hope this helps. Take care, Mary

Hey Lori , I'm sorry...I'm not much help either. My typical day consists of some type of chicken dish (tonight was chicken chili) (or hamburger dish), cheese, protein bars, nuts. I'm real bad about getting any fruits and veggies in. My son usually is off with his girlfriend and friends doing something....so I just do what is quick and easy. The only time I get any veggies or fruits in is if I go eat at my Dad's house!! I go see my doctor on Wednesday for my 6-month (well, almost 6-months) check up. Had labwork done last week.....so I may be getting a lecture about veggies from my doc!! If you come up with any great ideas, let me know!! Hugs, Dianne

Hey Lori Each of us is different and have gone down different paths. I eat lots of fruit all the time. My doctor never put any specific restrictions on what I can eat so I eat what "feels good" and "goes down without pain"! I tend to eat a lot of berries (high in antioxidants), nuts and lettuce. I try to force the protein first and then layer other things. I eat when I feel like it and dont at other times. Sometimes I dont eat much all day. Other days I nibble all day for a minute or two each time until my stomach tells me to stop. I take my vitamins and tums. I've lost 100 pounds and look and feel healthy. I eat with an eye to the future. What I want to build is a knowledge of what I can eat, how much I can eat and how it will affect me. If I double toast bread, I can get a few bites down. I can eat a little bit of pizza one day and Im fine but the next day it will make me sick. If I flatten a soft drink, I can drink diet cokes. Baked Lays have some protein and quickly fill me up after a handful. I figure I have to be able to eat like my family to some extent. That's what I'm learning to do. And, since I continue to lose weight, my doctor seems to think I'm doing okay. Hope my ramblings help. DeAnna
